Becuase I see true religion as having immense benefit both to individuals and to civilization as a whole, and the lack of it as yielding a far poorer and less well-directed society.

[D]efine "true religion" Bruce. religion, in my head is belief in a supernatural power(s) that govern/created natural forces.

We Baha'is see true religion as based on the teachings brought humanity by the Divine Messengers God has sent to educate and guide us; these Messengers founded all the great religions, which are all part of a single evolving faith, the Faith of God.

True religion may be identified by, for example, its fruits (a list of which was given in the Bible, which also states a good religion can't bear bad fruit and vice versa).

And the scriptures of the Baha'i Faith make it clear that all the great religions are legitimate and of God, and further that only a very few religions (created via "human perversion") aren't. Quote upon request.

I'm sure will be better when man follow what allah asks him to do,
Allah who is creator of all things in the world the world he knows what is best for man.
and in that time noone is superior(no president,no king,no scholar,pope,no sheik) to another since all are the same at the balance of God except what how they follow his commands.

But do you think religion can make the world a better place? And how do you believe that religion can be properly accessed as to make the world a better place?




It is not the matter of the people, as I have said, but the instrument.

I think that religion, in a more perfect world, would encourage kindness, generosity, compassion, etc. without all of the negative trappings it has in reality.
I think the problem comes when people's moral compasses are dysfunctional. So, lacking their own natural ability to choose right from wrong (or the confidence to follow it), they turn to religion to tell them which is which (and base their actions solely off of that religion). Then, you get the people condoning slavery (to use an earlier example) because it was in the Bible. You also get people choosing not to steal or murder because their religion tells them it's wrong. And people who donate to charity or volunteer their services because the religion says it's the right thing to do.

I believe people like that would find someone else to tell them how to live if religion disappeared. Become a fanatic army in the service of some tyrant, perhaps. Or start a hippie commune and grow extra food for the homeless.

So....eh. The world would probably be about the same.

But....even if I would be ok in doing away with religion, I wouldn't want to get rid of faith. If that makes any sense.
