Abortion for profit advertising - Yes/No?

I've just seen this article on the net that tells of new rules in the UK which will allow private abortion clinics to advertise on the TV and radio for the first time.

Although my views on abortion aren't especially strong either way I still think it is wrong that a private for profit company should be allowed to advertise, and hence make money, in this way.

Esentially, making money out of baby killing.

It seems to send out the wrong message.

The comments at the end of the article are interesting.

Is this sort of advertising allowed in the US and what do people think about this in general?

And it's really not different than advertising for any medical procedure. I would prefer that hospitals didn't have to compete like that - universal healthcare please - but since they do, compete away.

yes, but most medical procedures are about prolonging and enhancing life rather than taking it away.

Personally, I think health care should be universal and free, and abortion care should be part of this, which would render abortion clinics not in a position to be advertising on TV anyhow.

Not at all.

A woman can still have an abortion but why does it need to be blatantly advertised on TV?
So women can know where to find the medical services they're looking for

So it's not singled out as if it were illegal when it is perfectly legal.

I see nothing amiss as far as announcements go, but should be done in an manner reflecting the medical profession's code of ethics.

Comparatively, I wouldnt want to see abortion services advertised to what a lot of personal injury attorneys at present are putting forth as far as media ads go, violating what once was in the past, a code of professionalism and conduct.

I agree, but it's hard to legislate "Taste" or "tact"

I'm confused about what type of medicine is being practiced in this instance
Abortions are medical procedures, legal ones.

The only change in this law from previously is allowing private, for profit centers to advertise on TV. All private centers were allowed to advertise in the paper and not-for-profit ones were allowed to advertise on TV.

I don't know if public clinics in the UK advertise at all.

The only "healing" that I can see being done is the healing of the burden of responsibility that lays on a couple as a result of their selfishness

Nice personal opinion. And thankfully it is one that has zero effect on the legality of the procedure or the fact that it is a medical treatment.
