OK, got it. Glad to hear it. I wasn't familiar with that Zechariah verse.I don't consider that belief to be true. It is completely irrational, uncharitable, and the epitome of unjust to have people tortured forever.
What I find heartbreaking and disgusting is that it seems to be what the majority of Christians believe. I believe God will purify everyone. I think the lake of Fire mentioned was symbolic of a place where purification takes place. Gold can be purified through fire and God talks about purifying his people as gold is purified in a furnace.
Zechariah 13:9 ►
This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold.
I don't know what the majority of Christians believe. I know few people who refer to themselves as Christian. There apparently is long tradition of universalism associated with Christianity, according to Unitarian Universalists. And certainly there are plenty of other religions and religious philosophies that do not traffic in the idea of eternal torment in a lake of fire.
