About the U.S. Government's Cutting NASA's Funding

I wonder if the government is going to use what they save from cutting NASA funding to repay what they stole from Social Security?
That's an easy one.
There is nothing in Social Security.
All pay-outs are from the general fund.
And I thank you for paying such high taxes so that I can get my monthly check from them.
(But I pay far far more in taxes than I get back.)

More crap from the Right. They probably want to totally privatize space so only corporations have access to it. I don't mind private companies involved in space, but I don't think they should have space to themselves.

I think this is awful. Space sciences and the exploration thereof are extremely important endeavors for all humanity and we should proudly publicly fund such things, without any regard for greed. But they are gutting it and turning it over to corporations. :(

Space geek checking in!

The good news is there are quite a few private contractors who can carry out missions awarded to them by NASA. Other agencies are developing satellites and software along side NASA. Meanwhile, companies like SpaceX, ULA and Boeing are developing rockets and launch technologies. So, does it suck their funding is getting cut? You betcha! But the good news is that there are many civilian/private companies who are picking up the slack.

Plus, if Obama is for it, they're against it.
I am an Obama fanboy just as much as the next libbie, but, if I am not mistaken, Obama's budget proposals included a cut to NASA's budget.

Ya, I might have misspoken, but he is a long-time fan of NASA. However, with so many things undone, especially with our physical and cultural infrastructure, priorities may have it that its budget may have to be reduced.

Anyhow, thanks for the heads-up on this.

Np! I was surprised myself at first. But at the time, it made sense. He was budget cutting everywhere to try to reduce the deficit. Again, I could have been wrong, but I remember seeing a discussion about this not long ago on another forum. I will see what I can find.

Please do as I'm quite interested in this.

Great....just great.....the one government activity which goes well & earns my approval is being cut.

I used to feel the same way, when NASA actually achieved awesome goals and inspired people regardless of political agendas, now it's largely just another environmental agency, helping the government with their sales pitch for ever more taxes, regulations, control of every aspect of our lives

That's complete unadulterated nonsense. As a matter of fact, NASA has been dovetailing with the Department of Defense on security matters, so even though it is classified as an independent agency, it doesn't operate fully as one.

Your denial of even basic science has clouded your judgement to the point of near oblivion. And if there was any doubt about that, this statement of yours above tells the story quite well: "... helping the government with their... control of every aspect of our lives". It's quite clear that either you haven't done any traveling to other countries and/or that you live "in the bubble".

Is this a joke? I am not even going to bother with a thought out, fact based response because it clearly won't matter.
