Advice For Bible Students Beware Of The Scholars

Some of the best stuff is very difficult to locate/identify/access. Can you name two of the best resources for NT exegesis? Most who haven’t been involved professionally can’t.

It's just someones opinion. Scholarly, you say? Traditional I say.

No, it isn’t “just someone’s opinion.” It’s the considered and agreed upon standards of the community of scholars.

Yeah. Someones opinion, and, notoriously the collective opinion of those who agree with tradition, which is difficult because apostate Christianity, the modern day apostate traditional Christianity is so heavily influenced by pagan teachings. Greek philosophy. The immortal soul, the trinity, hell, the cross, Easter, Christmas . . . and on and on.

It's like with the Jehovah's Witnesses. If you can set aside their nonsensical adaptations of prophecy in which they place themselves in the picture, you got the truth. A very small portion you have to set aside. With traditional mainstream Christianity and Judaism you have to set aside thousands of years worth of pagan bull**** to get to the truth. The scholarly consensus is based upon tradition. A great deal more nonsense you have to set aside to get to the truth.

No. The divisions you see in Christendom are fairly well established and due to theological differences. The independent thinking Christian theologian or if that is perhaps not noninclusive enough, the nondenominational, is a new phenomenon.

In a sense I do mean do your own thing, as in not subjecting yourself to the traditions of men that seem nonsensical or unfounded to you, but not in order to reject scholarship but not to make the assumption that it has a monopoly on knowledge. You can easily research the apostasy in modern day traditional Christianity. You don't need a formal education or Jewish ancestry in order to do such a simple task. It isn't brain surgery. But it also isn't about stubborn intellectualism or world view. Challenge everything, including scholarly opinion as well as your own.

Ok, fine but IMO, with so many scholarly and otherwise opinions, I suspect it comes down to what you personally feel is right. Hopefully the HS is on your side.
