If theists would really want to find the truth, they would read more of science.

I mean real science, not religious research.

The principal problem with religions is that religions require to believe first and then think but only within the limits of particular religion.

Atheists don't believe in anything and have an open mind. They question everything, they looking for the real meaningfull answers and that's why they are able to find it.

you mean religious followers don't critically assess their beliefs? sorry, i'll go back to blindly following instead of thinking for myself like i have done :areyoucra

Some of them do, and some of them don't. I'd give you a specific example, but it would be off topic. If you want, I can start another thread elsewhere.

fwiw, I was an atheist for years, my degrees are all in science (well, except the music one), and if any religion had demanded I turn off my brains, I'd have told them to take a hike.

Not necessarily. There are some atheists who are about as open-minded as your average religious extremist.

I can understand why, considering some of the crap kids can be force fed in the name of religion. I can easily imagine having a similar reaction. Heck, I didn't start off particularly open-minded as an atheist, now that I think about it...

What an open, accepting and understanding attitude you have; I wonder, as an athiest, how far does your open mind take you in religious beliefs?

I question everything that's on the unquestionable shelves in the library . Religion is there, science and politics are trying to get on those shelves. There were no great truths given to middle eastern nomads six thousand years ago that we haven't past intellectually . So I won't read anything trying to make things fact with out providing evidence.

I try and read about as many religions as possible, different viewpoints, cults, made up religions etc..

I've tried catching on to other ones which take for a short period but I keep getting pulled back to Christianity - so there must be something with it that makes it special.

If you were indoctrinated into Christianity during childhood, that would explain why you feel a "pull" towards it.

I hav personnaly loked at this website, but do not agree with everything it says. from this mans point of view it may explain some things though (Dr. Clayton). This is mainly used to challenge the atheistic views of Christianity with science, reason, mathematics, and perception of reality.Note that these are very long and descriptive essays so you may not want to read them all.

Glad we can agree. I took a look at your links, and I do not agree with everything it says either.

maybe, maybe not.

I will admit that Christianity was the only religion I was exposed to as a child.

I mean God was God and there was no possibility of that being anything other than the Christian one.

However my family was an atheist one and I was never forced to go to church until the age of 13. (then I was forced to go 4 times a week)

Surprisingly though I never read the whole Bible until an adult though did have some religious education of the Gospels and key events.

I guess this could cause some bias?
