Age pensions

Again, because this forum global, there may be "differant courses for differant horses", but here in Aust.,once we reach retirement age ( males 65, females 63 I think)we become elligable for the age pension. This pension is subject to means test as to how much you are entitled to.
In Last weeks federal Budget the senior age group felt they were hard done by because they didn't get an increase in their pension so they held a protest rally.
Seniors strip in pension protest - National - theage.com.au
Because we have a wide age range on this forum
So my question is Should retirees/ aged people be entitled to Government support i.e age pension or should they have provided for their own retirement during their working life?"
And further to that are you " Saving" for your retirement?
What about you young, single workers? Do you feel your taxes should be spent in supporting an ever growing and aging section of the community?

I personally think that retirees/aged people should be entitled to a pesion. Many of them worked hard for many years and paid their taxes, so I thin k they deserve a little something back."Little" being the operative word, I find it appalling at the amount of the age pension, and the budget did nothing to help them. What does the government think that these people can do with less $400 fortnight if they are partnered and bit more if they are single? With rental prices on the increase I don't know how they can afford to live.

I tend to agree with your post, but then I am a little biased, Being in the Grey bracket LOL.
Oersonally I believe that those who have worked hard all their lives, paid their taxes and have not dipped into the oublic purse should be given at the very least the minimium basic wage.
