Aliens in your religion

Does your religion allow for aliens? :yoda:

I'm not talking about little green men who abduct Earthlings. Most, or at least many, scientists believe other intelligent life exists. There are 100 billion or so galaxies, each with 100 billion or so stars which may have planets. That's a lot of chances for life.

So does your religion, in your opinion, have any objections to the possibility of other life in the Universe? Can those life-forms be more intelligent than us? Do you believe those life-forms have a relationship with God? Do they have a Jesus or a Mohammed? Do they have souls?....etc...?

Don't see why not...

Nope.
Can those life-forms be more intelligent than us?
Not really setting the bar too high......:D Sure, quite possible.
Do you believe those life-forms have a relationship with God?
If they have sufficient intelligence, yes.
Do they have a Jesus or a Mohammed? Do they have souls?....etc...?
They just might....

Mine doesn't.

KingNothing said:

Of course. Anything's possible. Heck, if they got to earth before we got to their planet, they're automatically smarter.

KingNothing said:

There is no way to know.

KingNothing said:

No way to know.

Of course. If they have subjective viewpoints, they have souls. (That's not to say a subjective viewpoint is a soul.)

I suspect we'd be alright with that. My religion is pretty big on treating the stranger well, and what could be more of a stranger?
Shalom little green man! :D

Buddhism would cope with them as beings from another planet. I am convinced some Buddhist monks I encountered travelling coped with me as a being from another planet as well. Frubals to them.

Yes it does. In fact, it guaratees it.

Not at all. Again, we know that there is life out there.

KingNothing said:
Can those life-forms be more intelligent than us?
Yes, some will, and some won't be.

KingNothing said:
Do you believe those life-forms have a relationship with God?
Most definatly yes. We believe that God is God of the Universe, not just Earth.

KingNothing said:
Do they have a Jesus or a Mohammed? Do they have souls?....etc...?
Again, we believe that Christ is not just for Earth, He is the Savior for all the universe. And we also believe that other civilizations are just like ours, just in different stages of development, some more advanced, others less advanced.

I don't see any reason to deny the possibility of extra-terrestrial life.
Can those life-forms be more intelligent than us? Do you believe those life-forms have a relationship with God?
Maybe, no way to know for sure until we find some.
Do they have a Jesus or a Mohammed?
If they are as intelligent or more intelligent than us, I would imagine that they might admire or follow the teachings of some prominent being(s) in their civilization.
Do they have souls?
I guess that depends how you define a soul.

Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute.

(Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 162)

I rather whimsically refer to this passage as "Baha'i Sci Fi." :D

As for my personal opinion, if one posits an All-Mighty Creator, it would be rather silly, in my opinion, to think that said Creator had so little creativity that humanity is the only sentient species He would create, or that only the Earth would have life on it.

When will we meet other species? Well, we haven't grown up enough that we have universally accepted the idea that humanity is a single species, so I'd say we're far from ready for that next level of development.

My 'religion' allows for alien life, i would be stupid, ignorant and really big headed to believe that we are the only beings with a planet in this universe

It may be possible that there is life in outer space, but the statement that every planet has its own creatures is incorrect. Even in our solar system, which consists of 9 planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), Earth is the only planet that has life, the remaining 8 are lifeless.

With regard to extreterrestrial life, the Holy Quran says:

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ خَلْقُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَابَّةٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى جَمْعِهِمْ إِذَا
يَشَاء قَدِيرٌ
And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures he has scattered throughout them. And He has the power to gather them when He wills. (42:29)

So does your religion, in your opinion, have any objections to the possibility of other life in the Universe?
No. In fact the God I see in the world is one that revels in diversity, and so it suggest to me that we would find the same kind of diversity of life in the universe. But it should be noticed that the argument from the size of the universe does nothing to suggest that contact with intellegent life elsewhere will ever be a realistic possibility.

Can those life-forms be more intelligent than us? Do you believe those life-forms have a relationship with God? Do they have a Jesus or a Mohammed?
The only thing that I would venture to speculate is that if a study could be made of all the civilizations of intellegent beings in the universe, I think that there would be strong correlation between the abandonment of religion (if in fact such a thing ever actually ocurred at all) and the collapse of these civilizations.

Do they have souls?....etc...?
I don't have much use for the word "soul". I believe that a spirit is a part of every living thing, but that spirit like life and awareness are quantitative things and so this should not be taken to imply equality.

My personal religion considers the universe to be a whole, so any intelligent life - or unintelligent life for that matter - would come from the same source. "They" might have a leader such as Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, etc, who trys to explain their purpose and other worldy things in 'human" (alien) terms, and they probably screw it up just like our 'leaders' have. I don't think "God" focused just on this little ball of dirt, giving out souls to the two-legged creatures with egos. What a disappointing waste of time, energy, space and power if 'he' did!

Seems to me that one possible definition of heaven is the sky...
"The Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48"
Heaven
1. The expanse of space surrounding the earth; esp., that
which seems to be over the earth like a great arch or
dome; the firmament; the sky; the place where the sun,
moon, and stars appear; -- often used in the plural in
this sense.
[1913 Webster]

2. The dwelling place of the Deity; the abode of bliss; the
place or state of the blessed after death.
[1913 Webster]

3. The sovereign of heaven; God; also, the assembly of the
blessed, collectively; -- used variously in this sense, as
in No. 2.; as, heaven helps those who help themselves.
[1913 Webster +PJC]

4. Any place of supreme happiness or great comfort; perfect
felicity; bliss; a sublime or exalted condition; as, a
heaven of delight. "A heaven of beauty." --Shak. "The
brightest heaven of invention." --Shak.
[1913 Webster]

I don't know if would say there isn't life on any of the planets in our solar system. We just have not detected any with our extremely limited exploration, using our extremely limited devices. I like to believe that we humans cannot possibly fathom Truth - religion or scientific.

Sure, why not. More intelligent... I cannot answer. Do they have a Jesus... well humanity didn't get a Jesus on day one, so I'd go with some would, and some would not.

Technically, an angel visiting Earth is an alien. God is technically an an alien. Jesus acknowledged his non-terrestrial origin ... in a manner of speaking. The Bible spoke of "heavenly chariots" and "great wheels" but our 21st century vocabulary would call these things spaceships and UFOs. Imagine if a 21st century person encountered an angelic being. How would this person perceive such an excperience?
