Question Everything
I'm open to the possibility of a god, and I welcome such an entity to manifest in my living room to reveal himself and thus confirm his existence. Then we would sit down over some beers as he explained the mystical answers of the cosmos.

You're headed in the right direction. The only way to know is through personal revelation. don't ask me how to make that happen for you though, we're not supposed to seek for signs. I think it has something to do with the fact that we are accountable for what we know? we will not be given anything that we are not able to live up to? The Holy Spirit is real, and can actually communicate with you - but then that is just words from someone you don't know, so saying that does no good. If you really want the "Holy Spirit" experience - not the throw your hands in the air work yourself into a frenzie - the real experience... do what you can to show Him that is what you really want... do you really want the responsibility of knowing? They are not experiences that I asked for, honestly, I have no idea why He has opened my eyes to some things. Probably so I would stop wrecking everything around me - Paul/Saul sort of thing...

I've always loved this argument. No one is trying to dictate anything to a supreme being. In this case, he was describing what would happen, if such a being as the Christian God existed, not what should happen. It's not someone saying "Do this, God!". It's someone saying "If God existed as you say, then logically he would do this".
It's nice how you know exctly what Father Heathen is thinking, but I'd say you are wrong.

I'm sure you would. That's the problem. I know what Father Heathen is saying because I've said thing similar to his statement and had the same lame argument thrown back at me. It's the difference between me telling a friend "You have to come to my party" and telling them "To be logically consisent, you should come to my party, because of how much you love parties. I don't really care whether or not you're there, but it would make sense if you did come".

This isn't hard. All I'm saying is that you're misinterpreting the argument. No one is presuming they are better than God, and that they can tell God what to do because of it. They are just saying that if God acts this certain way, it is illogical.

Total crap. Telling a supreme being what they need to do in order for you to believe in them is utter hubris. I suppose it's an attemt to try and elevate yourself to their level.

this is a fair question, people who believe in evolution always have to prove their beliefs, and religious people never do, so can any religion out there give me solid evidence their religion is the right one because not everyone can be right, i look forward to your responses. religious people usually ignore these threads which don't surprise me because this is not about faith but 'evidence' but if you are confident enough please send a post.
It is a fair question.

The problem with it is that religion is not science. Theology is just not based on evidence, anymore than philosophy is.

Even in cases like myself, where belief is based on personal experience, that experience can't truly be shared. I can tell you about it, and I think you would understand why I believe, but I wouldn't expect you to share my belief.

Even in my case, the particulars of my theology are purely the product of my mind. It makes sense to me, but I have no evidence.

So, to sum up, while it's completely fair to want to hold religion to the same standard as evolution, it's just not practical. You can see that as an advantage or a handicap.

Maybe it would be good to actually read the post before responding. It's either that or your comprehending skills are uterly lacking. That is not even close to anything I said. I actually specifically showed why it is not you last sentence. If you say God is a certain way that would exclude certain actions by definition, and then you say God does an action excluded by said attribute, it is illogical. All we are saying is that it is illogical. Your God can do that action all he wants. I'm not chiding God for doing something bad. I'm saying Him doing that action doesn't make sense considering his nature. Please read this post before rejecting it, at least.

Yeah I read your crap and just would not go in the direction you were going because it's crap. Go back to where this started and save you disparaging of my comprehension skills for some moron who isn't capable of understanding your bs.

I didn't really expect you to go in the direction I was trying to. That would mean admitting there's something illogical about your concept of God. I can't help but surmise that your comprehension skills are lacking when you read a post of mine and then proceed to respond to something that wasn't even in the post. It's either that, or you're desperately trying to remain willfully ignorant. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.
