The Well is a nice place. It's usually quite busy on the weekends, but not so much during the week.

It has only one pool, but the pool is huge -- big enough for a hundred people. Suzanne and I used to go there often. It's only 40 minutes South of Colorado Springs.

The weekend crowd tends to be all ages -- from toddlers to great-grandparents. A lot of families. The weekday folks tend to be middle age men and women. The Well is a fun pool, but it does not have the same feel or atmosphere of, say, Valley View Hot Springs.

Valley View is much, much more natural, and a good number of people treat it as if it were a sacred place. As if going to it were a spiritual experience. No one treats The Well that way. It's more of a party pool than Valley View. There are several hot springs in Colorado. The ones that aren't free -- that is, undeveloped springs, usually on public lands -- tend to fall somewhere between The Well and Valley View in terms of atmosphere.

The funny thing about Colorado Springs is there are no springs in Colorado Springs! None! The city's founder -- a guy named Palmer -- wanted to attract people to the town, so he picked the most attractive name he could think of for it. But he was lying, basically.

A tiny town just next to Colorado Springs, however, has seven natural springs. That town is called, "Manitou". It once was known through-out America for its springs. People traveled from all over to visit them and drink the waters -- which were thought to have medical properties.
