Am I a misanthrope?

(but not all christians are like that, though).
One would think that that would go without saying...

However, I do find it rather comical when the big thing people harp on instead of the actual point is that it is not ALL of them...

Then you have to take the time and point out that you did not say ALL of them...
Such childish diversion tactics can get annoying at times, though.

No, I am not saying that you are doing this or do do this.

In the end, I am of the belief that there is no good reason to be unequivocally allied to ANY entity (be it your country, your family, God, humanity, etc.) without it first being proven to you that the entity is trust-worthy and has only the better intentions of others in it's mind-set.

If living in my country sucks balls for myself and most of my countrymen, why would I blindly ally myself to their cause? What sense does that make?

I've been thinking about my views on humans lately, and I'm curious as to what others may make of them.

I am not a great fan of my species. I love and like certain individuals but, as a whole, people depress me. If I watch the news and there is an article about human cruelty and suffering and an article on animal cruelty and suffering, the animal story will affect me much more than the human story. I am a member of a number of charities concerned mainly with non-human organisms and the environment, and I will only give to human charities if there is a wider environmental benefit (Oxfam, for example). I can't understand the concept of 'loving everyone' as promoted by many religions. Humans just don't do it for me.

Are these views strange? Disturbing? All thoughts welcome.
I am similar in most ways.

I find our species to be interesting, but rather destructive, and not generally as rational or intelligent as they could be.

I do, however, favor human charities in addition to other charities. "Loving everyone" is a vague term in my opinion, and the word love is thrown around so often that it looses its potency. I do try to care about everyone, which means I really hate to see or hear about suffering of any sort, including and perhaps especially human suffering.

I am generally quite disappointed with the human species. I don't "hate" humanity, but I do not have much faith in it. I believe in human rights and what not, but at the same time we are a cancer. Sadly, I do not have high hopes for humans changing their ways on a large scale anytime soon. So I would have to say that your views are pretty much normal.

Interesting responses so far. Thanks.
With the exception of a few theists who have responded, there seems to be an over-representation of atheists on this topic! Is that significant? Perhaps we are not bound by commandments to 'love thy neighbour' as featured in some religions.

here's a thought, maybe we are bound to this reality...
we expect from others what we expect from ourselves
