Isaiah 11:1 is worth considering as a possibility of what Matthew was quoting in Matthew 2:23. Here, it is said that the Messiah in the Davidic dynasty will be a נצר in the future.

Note: This is not my original thought. I heard it in a paper presented by a student at the Jerusalem Center for Bible Translators (bibletranslators.org) several years back.
