... and his design.

If existance is designed, what do you think it was designed for?
Looking at it's size and wich part supposedly contains life, it doesn't look like it is designed to contain life, but happens to contain life...

Now if it is designed for life, do you think the rest of the universe was designed for life to explore? Or do you think it was more an expansionpack of "earth" as life happened to start exploring? :D

The quality of a product produced by a company reflects the capabilities of that company.

An important manufacturer of say supercomputers reflects the skills of the staff who produced it and the advanced technology of its owners

In the same way, if you think of it, the universe reflects the might, knowledge and ability of its Creator

Why were we created?

To get to know our Creator and live in peace in this world and the Hereafter

Why was this amazing universe created?

For us to think, study, research and reflect to get to know our Creator

Our small planet earth is a small drop in the ocean, and our knowledge compared to His Knowledge is much smaller

Time to reflect and be humble?

The universe has nothing to do with us and everything to do with God. Obviously, if we didn't have the sun and the moon, life wouldn't be possible as we know it on Earth. I don't know if anything else in the universe affects us. I do know that many planets block the Earth from asteroids and such... It's interesting to think about.

But no, the universe certainly isn't "the story of humanity", that's for sure. Of course, being humans, I think it is appropriate to be concerned with our OWN purpose and design. Nothing egocentric about that...

Then, if that universe outside of what effects us, must have been created with another purpose in mind.

I agree.

well if the universe was designed, this would mean you are assuming a creator(something that imo has not been proven yet).but if god exists, why do many think we are his sole reason for this universe?what if god does not favor us over all other things?if all human life were to perish, that does not neccesarily mean the sun would stop shining or the space time fabric would collapse.the earliest forms of life were not human,so i would think the universe was not specifically created for man no more than it was for early sea life, plant life,or dinosaurs.if there is a creator, maybe the universe is nothing more than an idea god concocted out of boredom.we could just be a small piece of an infinite puzzle...which is not a completely bad thing.

It may not be His sole purpose, and the belief that God created us to know Him is based on what He conveyed to us

What is important to understand is our purpose in life, not God's reasons for creating the universe

I think this is not a goo argument since it would render god a rather poor manufacturer.
After all this universe might be big, but it is far from great.

Why were we created?

Doesnt really sound convincing.

Why was this amazing universe created?
For us to think, study, research and reflect to get to know our Creator
Strange then, that it would be created in a way that made most scientific people assume that there was no creator.

Greetings! :)

Why were we created?

I quote the Baha'i scriptures:

“O SON OF MAN!
“Veiled in My immemorial being and in the ancient eternity of My essence, I knew My love for thee; therefore I created thee, have engraved on thee Mine image and revealed to thee My beauty. “
--The Hidden Words, Part One, #4

Why was this amazing universe created?]/quote]

And again:

”O SON OF BOUNTY!
“Out of the wastes of nothingness, with the clay of My command I made thee to appear, and have ordained for thy training every atom in existence and the essence of all created things. Thus, ere thou didst issue from thy mother’s womb, I destined for thee two founts of gleaming milk, eyes to watch over thee, and hearts to love thee. Out of My loving-kindness, ’neath the shade of My mercy I nurtured thee, and guarded thee by the essence of My grace and favor. And My purpose in all this was that thou mightest attain My everlasting dominion and become worthy of My invisible bestowals….”
--Ibid., Part One, #32

It's existance alone, created or not, could indicate that it is "perfect"..

Or are you reflecting the entire universe on you own little self?
Why would the mere existence of something render that something perfect ?
"Perfection" would have to be defined anyway.

My opinion is simply that if a god existed that would have created the universe according to the scriptures, then this universe would look much different from the one we see.

These are some quotes by leading scientists which may be of interest:

“If the rate of expansion one second after the big bang had been smaller by even one part in a hundred thousand million million, the universe would have recollapsed before it ever reached its present size.”

The answer is actually rather obvious. The Universe is never more complex than the thoughts of the world's finest minds working with great difficulty to model and think about it. So those workings are not merely a "mindless accident" - though this is so for a much more mundane reason than we reflexively tend to assume.

Grammar is a real bugger. It conceals the obvious.

And what are these quotes supposed to explain ?
You see one can claim a lot with quotes without reaching anything.
See here...
Prof. Steven Hawking
You mean this one ?
What I have done is to show that it is possible for the way the universe began to be determined by the laws of science. In that case, it would not be necessary to appeal to God to decide how the universe began. This doesn't prove that there is no God, only that God is not necessary.

Harun Yaha
Please spare me that name. I went through some of his books. There are not many books about his subjects that are worse than his.
