And Odd Experience At The Dentist

I dread dentists.
(I would never survive a Bene Gesserit's gom jabbar.)
Yesterday I'd planned ahead for a tooth implant.
I had a playlist on my iphone, & wireless ear thingies.
Lo!
While the drill groaned, & the dentist worked, I actually
enjoyed the experience. My playlist distracted from the
thought of pain. Numbed up, there was no pain, but the
thought was the problem. Music replaced that thought.
I found myself smiling (only inwardly, since my jaw was
held open, & filled with tools of the trade).

Many good tunes, but this one was the most
calming & enjoyable Dental Bridges in Phoenix.
I am just looking for some words of encouragement and any techniques to keep myself calm. I don't know what I will have done tomorrow but I know my gums are ****ty (the curse of giving up smoking) so I expect at least a good old scale... That scares the Hell out of me as it was actually the hygeinest that really hurt me last time I went (different dentist!) I also have a realy, really sensitive tooth and suspect I'll need a root canal ... The dentist won't be able to go near it as it is super, super sensitive. It was filled a few years ago and I was told it was 50/50 as to whether it would need root canal. On top of this I have a tooth growing out of aligment and was told on my last visit a few years ago that it will have to be extracted   So all in all I am going to need a fair bit of work done. I feel sick already, haven't been sleeping the past few nights and know by tomorrow I'll be a complete tizzy. I mean even the thought of it is making my feel ill... I know I need to have the work done and I am 10% actually looking forward to beginning to get my teeth sorted. I am 90% totally bricking it though

I work in a very large dental facility (26 operatories) and they offer patients the choice of being anesthetized if they feel it’s needed. And I know some other dentists that do the same. You may be a candidate for this. Maybe call around and see if this is on offer in your area.

I don't have any dentist fear at all, it's not like I enjoy it, but I don't care either as long as I don't feel anything. But I had a tooth which was split due to an old metal filling and they wanted to do a root canal as well, but it is very expensive, and since the tooth was pretty far back in the mouth I told them to just pull it instead and in that case it is quickly handled rather than over a couple of weeks.

But I hadn't had any issues with the tooth until a few days ago and damn that hurts, think I ate all possible painkillers I could get my hand on, but the only thing that really helped was cold water, which I had to drink every 20-30 seconds to get rid of the pain.

Getting the tooth removed isn't a huge deal, you won't feel anything and it takes about 25-30 minutes, the only thing is that it kind of feels like they are trying to remove your jaw when they remove the roots :D But compared to having tooth pain it is nothing. And it barely hurts afterwards.

The only thing that really annoys me, is that you have to choose to get it removed, due to the cost rather than what makes sense, it shouldn't be like that in my opinion. But in Denmark for some odd reason, given our free health system, dentists are the only ones that are not covered by it, which is absurd in my opinion, as I think tooth problems are probably some of the worst "normal" pains you can experience and you can't really do anything about it.

Dentists seem to have changed over the years - or my teeth have. I'm in the process of having some new dentures - after some teeth were removed - and have had two appointments cancelled on the day so still awaiting such, but no great inconvenience. However, when the current dentist has a cleaning session it invariably causes some pain but where I know this isn't entirely necessary, given that a previous person employed in the practice managed to do this quite successfully without causing any pain. Given that I can tolerate a fair amount of pain I mostly just endure it. :nomouth:

My gums are in bad shape, likely from when I quit smoking, so I’m expecting at least a thorough scale, which freaks me out since the last hygienist really hurt me (though it was a different dentist). I’ve got a super sensitive tooth that might need a root canal, and I’m worried the dentist won’t even be able to go near it because of how sensitive it is. It was filled a few years ago, and I was told back then that it was a 50/50 chance it would need a root canal. On top of that, I have a tooth growing out of alignment that I was told might need to be extracted.

Human teeth suck in general, not the best design nature has come up with :D

However, I would strongly suggest that you get it fixed, it's bad having to go through it, but afterwards, it is very nice and well worth it. It will only get worse and worse and more and more expensive, and eventually, you will be "forced" to do something about it anyway.

At least that is my best advice, also check Trustpilot for the dentists near you and see if they are getting good feedback.

thank you so much for your suggestion

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I am going to the endodontist tomorrow for a root canal on a back tooth. I am not looking forward to the numbness but I will be OK in the long run. Aging is not for the chicken that's for sure.
