And they left.

John 6:66 "From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him."

Why?

Because they were 'offended'.

What ever became of those that went back and walked no more with Him? What ever happened in their lives? What did they go on to do when they left following Him?

What would I do if I was offended and no longer walked with Him?

I might think everything I went through was 'rubbish' and go on doing what I was doing before I began following. What else would anyone else do if they had already turned away and stopped following?

If the decision was already made to get to the point of 'stopping' to follow, what else is there? Back to how it was prior, I guess..

We must keep in mind that translation of language from that era to the present day is inexact. Perhaps some could anticipate that the way of The Christ would lead to death, or persecution? Maybe they were more focussed on their wives and children? He was getting ready to do things that no one had done before. Likely they did not understand the wonder of what would happen.

John 6:66... interesting...
Yes, because he says that no one can get to the father without going through the son. It would have been quite opposite of the way conservative religious people at the time would think.

I think most folks would be offended by the concept of cannibalism.

Some modern day preacher comes along and says "You must eat my flesh, drink my blood"
