Annoying co-workers

Kadzbiz's thread about laughing in serious situations made me think of this. Do you work with anyone who has an annoying habit? A man I work with has a nervous laugh. (Ha ha ha ha ha ha) He can't say anything without laughing at the end of the sentence. (Ha ha ha ha ha ha) When he's on the phone, it's enough to drive me crazy. (Ha ha ha ha ha ha) Of course, I just hear one side of the conversation, but it's ridiculous! (Ha ha ha ha ha ha) When I'm trying to concentrate (and my work requires some serious concentration), I simply can't do it when he is carrying on a conversation ten feet away from me. (Ha ha ha ha ha ha) You know what I mean? (Ha ha ha ha ha ha)

I have a work colleague that starts almost every sentence with "like I said" even though he never did. Strange. I've never brought it to his attention though.

go rent Office Space, it will give you perspective.

(i've watched it about 16 times and still go into hysterics when he shows up in flip flops and tears down his cubicle.) the fish gutting is hilarious too...

Thanks for the recommendation. I have Netflix and was wondering what to rent next. :)

The president of my company has a similar habit. Whenever you tell him something, he says, "Is that so?" Makes me want to say, "Well, yes. You think I'm making it up?"

Well, seeing that I work with mostly college students (as I am one and live in a college town), I could say a lot about my co-workers. Two that bother me are the one who constantly lies about EVERYTHING and then the stuck-up-thinks-hes-gods-gift-to-man guy. Those are the two that stick out to me right now.

Do you watch The Office? Funny stuff! Anyway, if you do can you remember the episode where Dwight is sitting on the exercise ball at his desk and Jim pops it? Funny thing is that when I was doing my internship, there was a dude who sat on an exercise ball right next to me. I never thought about popping it, but it was as funny then as it was when I saw it on The Office!

Not really anymore. I work with a good group of people that get along pretty well.

Although, not too long ago, I worked with a girl that snorted all the time. I think she had bad allergies or something. It was real loud. You could hear it down the hall.

I had a secretary that said to every one who told her anything." if you say so"
As if she did not believe it.

It got me mad till I realised it was just a habit.

Well, it's in school, but it's labwork, so I'm gonna squeeze this one in here. :D

I only know my lab partner as "stupid girl", since... well, she is. Our teacher takes great pains to explain as clearly as possible exactly what we are going to do and how we're going to do it. He draws diagrams, demonstrates, and has written instructions on the board.

Every time we're in lab as soon as we start to do something, stupid girl turns to me and asks "So what do I do?" and acts like a three year old if something doesn't turn out EXACTLY the way she wanted it to or if she has to do any real work.

A couple years ago I was the night shift supervisor for a restaurant. As the night would go on and the business would slow down I would let people go and just break it down to myself and one other worker by the end of the night. While I didn't have much problems with my crew, I would occassionally step in and work day shift more and more as well. I would do the same thing on days after the lunch rush. It gets pretty dead between 2 and 5 in a restaurant so I'd let people go. There was one young guy inparticular that would always be asking when he could go. The guy would start asking me at about 1pm, sometimes even sooner! If I could have had my way he would have been gone, unfortunately he was the son of a best friend of the owner. Talk about some nepotism going on there. :sarcastic

I also had a few "know-it-alls" there that drove me up the wall. They thought they could do no wrong and told everyone. They thought they were so valuable and needed when they were actually no better than the average worker there (many times they were worse). They were the most fun to send home first. :D They were always amazed when they weren't kept around and would get upset about their lack of hours while the rest of us were graced with not having to hear their mouths run endlessly about themselves the rest of the night/day! ;) It's good being the boss. ;)

cisco- ha!

the guys who really crack me up at work are the pushy, racist, know-it-alls who step in every now and then and actually have no idea what they're doing.

i was working at a restraunt, where most of my co-workers were Brazilian. we were working like crazy, and that day this local manager comes in and tries to "make things run more smoothly". in the end he had to get the hell out of the way and let us work. as i'm preparing some food he leans over the fry bin and starts speaking to me in broken Spanish. when someone taps him on the shoulders, grinning, and tells him i'm American he goes "oh! i thought she was Mexican! she works so well!" we didn't even try to correct all of the things wrong with that statement. would have taken too long, and the guy was gone by the afternoon.

One of the guys I work with always has this really creepy smirk on his face. Me and another co-worker have started calling him "Smirkenstien".

He's not a bad guy, and he does it to everybody so I don't take it personally, but it's still kinda unnerving.

I'm waiting for the right time to point it out to him and ask him what it's about.

I sort of feel like I have to; people avoid him and he know's it, and it hurts his feelings, but I don't know if he understands why.

Actually, I'm kind of dissapointed. I thought this was going to be a how-to thread.

I work with a guy who demands to much when he relieves me. Every morning he has some kind of new decree to lay on me about how he wants the booth maintained before he relieves me. Everything from lifting up the toll booth’s wind guard, to emptying the garbage, to checking the receipts, to turning off the booth’s heat before he enters, to throwing my cigarette butts far away from the lane and wiping down the equipment because he claims it has nicotine on it (?!?!?!?). He is a chronic complainer and I have recently found out that he has mentioned me and other collectors to the supervisors on many occasions. The bosses do not listen to him because he is always complaining and they never approach the collector he is talking about. He has diabetes and is constantly using his sickness to gain sympathy from fellow employees and consistently calls out of work using his disease as an excuse. The supervisors consider his leave of absence a “day off” from him. He is always getting into some negative exchange with the patrons and often requires fellow collectors and regular patrons to bail him or write an “adda-boy” letter to the authorities in his defense. I used to hang out and talk with him for a half an hour after my shift when I first got transferred to this station but I stopped that after realizing he would always forget what we talked about from the day before and he began to drift into re-runs by telling the same old stories. He doesn’t like his morning shift and is always after the supervisors to schedule “extra-help” for him even though the traffic on the Thruway is nominal compared to the other Saugerties station. He is someone whose job preoccupies a great deal of his time and thoughts, on and off duty and it is a very sad and pathetic condition to exist.

It sounds like the Job is at the limit of his intelligence.
Such people suit simple jobs very well, as they tend to be unimaginative and carry out the task to the letter.
How ever it seem that his temperament and personality are unsuited for working with people. It would be hard to think of a job that would suit him better, so you are probably stuck with him.

The head of OH&S is always saying,'for to'. As,'We've put these measures in place for to ensure people aren't injured and we're requiring the drivers to do this for to keep in line with this policy.'
It drives me mad.
One of the guys at work feels the need to tell anyone and everyone who stands in a stationary position long enough his entire life story, how things are currently progressing in his on again off again relationship, and regularly brandishes his phone at people to show them any texts he's recieved. He'll also be rambling on happily, suddenly stop and say,'Oh, you know what was funny but...' and proceed to relate something that is rarely if ever even vaguely amusing.
