My mom, siblings and I have been intimidated with one.
My mom's first husband was murdered with one. She knows a couple people who killed themselves with one. My brother knows one. My siblings know someone who was shot. I had a budding friendship ended by a fatal accidental gunshot.

There's a shop on the way out of state in which the name always baffles me... "Family Liquor". ....what now? Booze for the whole family? I like a glass of wine now and again, but that just seems excessive...

It is a stupid name for a shop but I'm hoping they'll check the age of the people they sell liquor to. However, even if some kid gets drunk and does something stupid, I doubt the damage will be as bad as a crazy person with a riffle.

This isn't usually my cup of tea, but violence is hitting hometown, too, with two separate murders over the weekend. Both involved guns, and one person was buying lemonade at a child's snack stand, of all places. With all the recent happenings, its hard not to think about.

Some cry they need them for defense. Others cry they should all be flushed. I don't have any answers myself, but I wonder what exactly our experience with guns is on the US soil.

Anyone can answer the poll, but please only answer for your experiences while in the US.

None of the above, so I couldn't vote in the poll.

No privately ownrd guns here.

When i was going to kill myself,
it was as easy as dropping 17
stories to the sidewalk. I had my
leg over the rail but couldnt do it.
Not fear, but duty to Mom stopped me.

I've been intimidated by guns. Once when I was about 10 years old some neighbor kids were shooting at me with a 22 rifle as a joke. I was on their farm. Again when I was about 13 a customer on my paper route and of course with several excursions with law officers.

Luckily, I have never had to shoot or draw my weapon on anybody, nor have I been held at gunpoint. Sadly though, a classmate and friend of mine shot his brains out the year after we had graduated from high school. I knew he was mentally exhausted from working long hours, and I knew he was stressed out by his parent's divorce, but I failed to realize how depressed he really was. If I would have only known, I might have borrowed his rifle away from him until I figured he was no longer so seriously depressed

Nothing in person, but I have been threatened to be shot by two different people while debating gun safety by right wing people on Facebook. This made me very nervous given the fact these people could easily track me down, and they sounded very serious about doing it. I stopped debating on Facebook due to these threats.

I'm sorry to hear that, George. :(

One night, when I was 13 or 14 year old, I was roaming around with a couple of friends. We were in an alley that had houses on one side and some woods on the other side. I said something to them about going into the woods together. As I was walking into the woods, I thought they were behind me, so I continued talking. A minute or two later, I heard a man shout something. I turned around, saw that I was alone, and then walked back to the alley. There was a man holding a rifle. I asked him if the land was someone's property. He said yes and then asked me who else was with me in the woods. After I told him that nobody was with me, he asked me the same question again. When I gave him the same answer, he asked me my name. I gave a fake name and then he told me to run. So, I ran off and never saw him again. I found my 'friends' when I ran to the street where one of them lived.

I have an acquaintance that blew himself away with a shotgun. Suicide by firearm is a problem that's not talked about enough.

That's a good point.

When I was a kid, my friend's boyfriend did the same. I'm surprised how often that theme has come up on this thread.
