Another shooting fueled by an extreme right wing white supremacist

But weren't the victims white?

both the children killed were Hispanic, don't know the race of the adult who was killed.

It's odd how the media handle descriptions of guns.
I kept hearing it was an "AK47 style SKS".
They're very different.
An SK is not an assault rifle at all.
But things must be made more sensational.
A single shot ,22 becomes an ¨ assault rifle""in the drive to ban these types of firearms. An AK 47 is Russian, and sinister, perfect for the narrative.

I still don´t know for sure what makes an assault rifle, is it because it looks scary to some people ? They are semi auto rifles, which have been around for a hundred years. I have one that has a 15 round magazine, that I have owned for close to 50 years. It is just a rifle with a beautiful wood stock, that I refinished myself years ago

What if I glued a plastic barrel shroud on it, and painted the stock black, is it now an assault rifle ?

The first assault weapon ban was discarded because it made no difference in the murder and crime rate.

The AR 15 platform is the most popular hunting weapon in the US. Surprisingly, you do not see hordes of white and black nationalists shooting it out in the streets with them.

Like water dripping into a bucket, every drop is part of the bucket being full.

The continuous harping about assault weapons in crimes, even telling total lies like we have here is aimed at putting another drop in the bucket. When it is full it will mean hideous restrictions on firearm ownership, and massive confiscation.

That fits perfectly into the ultimate goal. A passive population controlled in all ways by a central government,

When Trump was asked whether white nationalism was a problem Trump stated that it wasn't. Here, we have a shooter who killed several people including a 6 year-old boy who will never realize his potential.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying again that Trump's rhetoric is emboldening a specific sector of his base that is dangerous. I fear that if Trump gets re-elected, this sector of his base will only get more bold. However as a repricussion I do believe an extreme group on the left will form along with disgruntled and disinfeanchised people of the minority community will start targeting back.

I suspect no conservatives will be on board in channeling criticism against the divisive rhetoric of this so-called leader, but this needs to stop.
I would classify myself as a conservative and I denounce Trump a lot. I don't view Trump as conservative or even a true populist or nationalist. I do realize that he is a symptom and not a cause, though. His rhetoric and policies is a product of our broken inter-ethnic relations, which have been worsening since the recession. They were horrible under Obama, too. (Not saying Obama caused it, either.)

I would like to know how he got an AK-47. I was under the impression that fully automatic guns are banned except if you have a Federal Firearms License, which costs thousands of dollars and needs a ton of paperwork. It's mostly members of the military that have them, as far as I know. So how did a 19 year old get an AK?

What caused some in the media to call him a "White Supremacist"? The only thing I saw was that he quoted Ragnar Redbeard once, if I quoted Moby Dick does that make me a whaler?
He referenced a white supremacist book from the 19th century:

“Read Might is Right by Ragnar Redbeard,” the caption said. “Why overcrowd towns and pave more open space to make room for hordes of mestizos and Silicon Valley white tw**s?”

California shooting suspect cited white supremacist book on Instagram

Was it fully automatic? You can buy semi-automatic versions of other military weapons.

How do you even know he had one?

Your header declares facts not in evidence. If the ´police don´t know the motive yet, I don´t understand why you think you do.

The half Iranian, half Italian man certainly had some disturbing statements online, nevertheless, I prefer facts over speculation.

If race, once again, is the criteria, then I would suggest that Blacks have been getting their own back vigorously.

The assassination of Police Officers is a predominantly Black sport, and it has been going on for a number of years.

Further, those champions of minority causes, ANTIFA, have exercised much violence in their quest. In Portland, they do it with impunity, knowing the police will make no effort to stop them.

So, lets not play the race card yet. Lets agree that there is a worm eating at the heart of America, the redress of political disagreements by murder of innocents.

Until we stop couching the problem in exclusively racial terms, and simply admit there are a lot of sick people who want to kill others, we can never address the issue properly,.

Pointing cfingers and jumping on the we v them bandwagon only gives cover to these sickoś.

I have a different take on the Gilroy incident. Once again honest law abiding people in one of the strongest gun control states, had no method of self defense against crazed idiots. Luckily the Police were close, and did what should be done to all of these loons.

Whst if they weren´t so close ? The slaughter toll would be much higher. If only one person had a firearm and used it, the shooter would have to be distracted at the least, stone cold dead at the best.

Until we realize that this crap is a societal problem, for the entire society, and not a racial or gun control part ( which never works) it will continue.

WE have to kill the worm. People desensitized to killing by watching it over, and over in movies, TV, and video games. The rampant belief that killing will somehow solve some kind of problem.

Ignoring despair, mental illness, hate in all kinds of people.

London is now in crisis because of knife killings. Their solution ? Knife control laws. Pure futility, but it gets them off the hook for a while as far as addressing the real causes in these murders.

Doing less is like telling a man with a severed leg, to take a baby aspirin, and he will be just fine.
I see a lot of people trying to push this "good guys with guns save the day" narrative but I don't see it working out in reality.
Let's say a bunch of other people at the festival were carrying guns and decided to whip them out and start trying to take down the shooter and save the day. That's what everybody is talking about right, "good guys with guns" taking out the bad guys with guns? So now you've got several people all shooting guns at a crowded festival full of people. How does that not increase the likelihood of more carnage and death occurring when you've now got even more bullets flying everywhere? Maybe the good guy with a gun could have taken out the bad guy with a gun, or distracted him, or whatever, but odds are, the good guy would have injured some other good guys at the crowded festival.

I do agree that the US definitely has a societal problem at the root of this. You're the only country in the free world that has these mass shootings on a regular basis.

No different than when black people berate other blacks for dating white people but we don't call them supremacists do we?

Media:
Quoted Ragnar Redbeard at one time = White Supremacist

Used an assault rifle
Was an SKS which is classified as a war relic
Then it was "assault type"

Richard Ramirez wore an ACDC cap- ACDC was responsible for the murders.

See where this is going?
So out of curiosity then, how many times have you positively referenced white supremacist books throughout your lifetime?

Such things tend to not be newsworthy.
But guns are used properly in self defense regularly.
Years ago, I remember The American Rifleman
publishing many such accounts.

I wonder how many people in this thread realize that a "****** lover" was someone who was both white and a valid target for people like the Klan?
And what's the point and purpose of bickering over details of the gun used? Does it make people that uncomfortable that they have to divert and distract from everything about this shooting to reduce the realization it's part of a larger trend in the increase in radical Right-wing violence since Trump took office?
White supremacist violence responsible for spike in US domestic terror arrests, FBI says
But did people take heed of the warnings this was a very possible outcome before the election? Nope. Did people see the red flags going up as people Hitler saluted Trump over his EC win? Nope. Are they still reluctant to accept reality? Yup.

60 million people voted for Trump, some of them your friends, neighbors, and family.

Too bad that Hillary voters never accepted the reality of her record either.

The media should always be called on the carpet for misrepresenting the facts.
Whether it's for a political agenda or profitable sensationalism, it's wrong.
That is such an insignificant facet of this story it has no place here, but rather for a collection of stories where news anchors have gotten guns wrong.
