Perhaps, but perhaps there is nothing wrong with that either. The human mind needs a concrete focus for its attention. It is not easy to focus on a non-physical infinite God that one cannot visualize. The key is to have a form, like Jesus, that to you represents the stepping stone between you and the God of pure Love for all.
Does the new testament say literally non -physical god. Is there a Webster's definition in the new testament that says that? I point this out because you have to create a connect a dot for that to be true. This non physicality fiction is hyper evangelical reductionism coequal to hyper secular material reductionism. Its like saying that reality is virtual and that it's operated by a giant computer or an alien being that exists outside reality. It actually completely runs counter in totality to the truth "this is my body, this is my blood and this is my cross you morons" . A larger than the physical God is no God at all, for you "believe" you understAnd the physical and clearly you do not. Very atheist actually interestingly.

Are christian's who worship Jesus, practicing a "form" of idolatry?

Yes, idolatry is a state of mind, like a mental block where the mind is in darkness(ignorance). I also include myself as one who is not fully awakened so I am also in darkness. Jesus can be looked up to as a big brother ...or a symbol for our own spirit as it is written in the Gospel of Thomas: whoever fully understands the sayings of Jesus becomes the twin of Jesus.

If christians worship the son of God, it would be idoltry if there is no son of God. If Jesus was God, it would not be idolatry. However, if Jesus was the same as the OT Lord, then Christians could worship to OT Lord or Jesus. However, it they worshipped Jesus as the OT Lord, they wouldn' be Christians. It depends on who Jesus was.
