Any musicians in the house?

...past or present

I was in the school band for four years (I quit when I got into High School). I played the clarinet and was first chair the whole time...well I got beat once by the girl I sat next to, but took it back the next week. I haven't played in probably 15 years. I like to screw around with a harmonica from time to time and if I'm in front of a piano I'll try my luck (although I have no idea what I'm doing). I can't sing to save my life...but I love to anyways.

I cannot play any instrument, but I sing.

I am told (by those who should know) that I have a very good voice. I have twice had a few lessons, to improve my range; I can manage Baritone, lead, tenor and castrato/alto/falsetto (whatever you want to call it). I was accepted as a member of the Gilbert & Sullivan Operetta Company of Bournemouth, I have sung in a Church choir and was 'encouraged' to join another local musical company, either as part of a Barbershop quarted and/or a Male voice Choir.

Since I can only stand for short periods of time, I had to decline the offer (I would also have had to commit to two nights' weekly practice and annual fees for uniforms(for special shows) which I thought was, frankly, a cheek.

I too played in my school bands. Played the alto sax. Was president of the district band in 8th grade. In high school we marched in the orange bowl parade in Miami. But haven't played now in...... over 30 years. I'l getting old! As far as singing goes, I could not carry a tune in a bucket!

I played flute in school, all the way through till graduation, and was in choir as well. I took piano lessons from 2nd to 8th grade, but quit playing totally when I quit lessons. After High School I only played my flute occasionally, but I love to sing. About 5 years ago, the organist at our church retired, and I was the only one willing to even give it a try - and I wasn't really willing, I just knew that nobody else could (or would) at all, so I said ok. Being organist at church was actually something I said I would NEVER do - I get too nervous playing in front of people. But I've become accustomed to it over the years now, and, altho I'm certainly no Liberace, I can get through most of the hymns we play - even if I have to chicken out and just play the melody! Our congregation is very understanding, and grateful that they have anyone to play, so the only pressure is what I put on myself.

About a year and a half ago I bought another clarinet to see if I still had my chops. My idea was to learn how to play swing and Big Band. I was also 1st clarinet 2nd chair in middle school. I used to play bass clarinet from an instrument lent to me by the school. I have two harmonicas now. A G harp and and a C Chromatic harmonica. My father gave me a "How To Play Harmonica" book that he got from the Orange County Jail when he worked as a CO.

chromatic harp? oy, that was a headache. i gave up and just bought 6 other keys. real shame, cause chromatic harp players are amazing. Do you know, can notes be bent on chromatic harps?

I play guitar, electric & classical & sing & scream, I am still a teen so play in school bands though I am not in one at the moment. I am looking to put together a religiously focussed screamo badn (similar to UnderOath but not Christian) to work with my new style of lyrics. I will hopefully play electric guitar, sing a bit but mostly scream in this band.

Me and some friends formed a death-metal group we called Necroshade. We never could keep things the same. When we first started, I was playing rythym guitars, then I moved to lead, then I started playing bass and background vocals until we broke up because our drummer, keyboardist, and lead guitarist/vocalist all moved out of state. Me and the rythym guitarist still play together, and we had a long jam session at halloween party a metaphysical store was hosting.

I think the bagpipes are awesome and would like to learn. I wish I could play a violin or a fiddle too.

I've been in and out of bands for the last couple of years. I started as a rhythm guitarist before I could play properly, but I learned quite quickly. I'm now a rhythm-y-lead-ish guitarist in one band and singer in another. Both punky, with a little reggae and ska.

Yeah, the pipes rule! Alot of people of people I know have asked me how I can stand listening to that racket, they just don't hear the beauty.

You can get practice pipes that are no louder than an accoustic guitar. I think they pump off a bellow, irish style.

I love bagpipe music. I'd like to learn how to play them. If I ever learn, I will stand on my roof, and play the intro Korn's Chutes and Ladders into a microphone so the whole neighborhood can hear.
