It's moves like this that make me feel confident that the US is collecting so much pointless data that none of it is going to be of any use to them.

Stupid. They do it just to do it at this point.

Sure, but speaking from a background of records management, collecting too much irrelevant data is almost exactly the same as collecting no data at all.

I still think they shouldn't be collecting it on principle, but I'm comforted by the fact it won't do them any good. If you really wanted to drain their resources, all you would need to do is set up tens of thousands of bots that spend all day playing angry birds and googling DIY bomb construction. .
