I’m surprised no one has posted about this. Any thoughts about the announced changes???

Well, I was super happy about the two new apostles, especially Elder Gong. He sounds like my kind of apostle. :) The "ministering" bit... who knows. We definitely did need a change, so maybe this is it. The Elders/High Priests quorum change obviously won't affect me, but my gut feeling was positive. So far, my feelings about President Nelson are more positive than I'd expected them to be.

Hey! Wow, you had your baby! Congratulations! Tell us all about how the five of you are doing.

Well, they've discontinued home teaching and visiting teaching and are replacing it with something they're calling "ministering." Apparently, it's going to be a lot less structured, and hopefully the focus is going to be more on people than numbers! No more monthly reports telling how many people you visited, which will mean no more last-day-of-the-month visits so you can say you met your quota. No more set messages or lessons. Just "ministering" the way Christ did. I don't think anybody but the bishoprics and stake presidencies really know much more at this point than I've told you. I guess we'll all find out within the next week or so how it's going to work.

Well that all sounds positive.

Life as a family of 5 is good although I will be pleased when Spring is well and truly here as we have had virus after virus after virus.

My eldest 3 year old started it all in November with hand, foot and mouth which moved onto a viral induced wheeze (requiring hospital admission) which turned into chicken pox for Christmas Day followed by another random Virus.

My almost 3 month old (a girl making a boy and two girls) has currently got bronchiolitis (also requiring a hospital stay).

We are good though, busy but I like it that way. I am currently considering home educating the kids!

Wow, you are busy! I can remember those days with my kids. I can also remember that when you and I first "met," you were still a teenager yourself. LOL! A lot has changed since then, no?

I know I'm late chiming in here...but ever since Conference I've been thinking about the 'ministering' changes, and I have a couple of reactions.

My first thought was, wow, we are actually being asked to grow up and deal with the spirit of helping each other, not the paperwork.

My second thought was, wow...now I can be involved! I take medication which really interferes with my immune system, and I am the caretaker for my parents, both of whom are in their nineties. Between the two situations, I'm pretty much homebound. I haven't been to church in nearly three years. Sacrament gets brought to us, along with the lessons and summaries of the 'talks.' We had amazing home teachers...but our visiting teacher is sicker than I am!

But now, with the new 'rules' about how we can contact people and help each other, there are a great many things *I* can do from right where I am that wouldn't have 'counted' before. I can't go do the monthly visit...but I CAN e-mail and call and have my car available for chauffeuring and knit and quilt and make and mend and cook...

Lots of things I can do. I'm looking forward to this.

Oh gosh that's scary. I'm 32 now!! So much has changed. Some things good, some things bad but mostly good :)

I really hope I get to Utah one day and I can meet you in person! Or if you ever have a trip to England again?

I can't believe how close I was to where you lived (or lived at that time). I really hope you make it to Utah, too, as I would love to meet you.
