This claim has been thrown around quite a lot where I am, and as a religious minority I find it a remarkable example of irony. If by persecuted you mean having others stand up for their own beliefs to be equally represented by our secular country, then yes... I guess Christians are. :areyoucra

Persecution in the historical sense means that people are either:

1. Killed
2. Beaten
3. Raped
4. Mutilated
5. Tortured
6. Imprisioned

for being a Christian.

Christians in the United States are rarely persecuted in this way.

I figured, and my answer is still no. They are the majority in this country, they aren't as 'persecuted' as they like you to believe. Though that comment is more towards the Protestants then the Catholics. The Catholics get a fair share of crap from people as well.

There's the crux of the issue. Whenever I've seen/heard a Christian saying they were being persecuted, it was because some minority group was challenging their status quo.

Philadelphia means Christian love and when they banned others…think it is defiantly the other way around….perhaps ask the Red-Skinned horse men.

That and the fact they aren't allowed to spread their version of the truth in schools.

Americans, in general, are pretty spoiled. Particularly the majority who don't have much to worry about. Since we don't have to deal with as much physical persecution as in other countries we tend to be overly sensitive to minor disagreements.

How can Christains claim persecution when many of the political leaders in America profess to belonging to Christianity, and when a political candidate in America is a Christian or not is a major voter issue?

Yes, as evidence of that persecution I advance the fact that nearly all of our most powerful elected representatives are...Christian.

It's truly awful that they are tortured in this way, being forced into such lowly estate.:p
