Are snakes okay?

The only snakes I ever handled were non-venomous (I like the way they feel).

Really? You love the way they feel. OMG..... I can't touch even the smallest, non venomous snake in the world... I would rather jump out of the empire state building or the Mt. Everest than touch a snake :D

Would you participate in a religion that required you to handle snakes? Why or why not?

As long as that isn't a euphemism! :p.

Although I'd be more likely to handle the snakes as i rescue them from their religious prisions!
Many would then attend group therapy titled 'religion survivors' before they felt able to go back into the real world! Small buffet provided. ;)

How does handling snakes put God to the test, Christine?

Lawrence, Have you always had this fear of snakes? Is there some cause for it, or do you think it inborn?

Myself, My participation in a religion that handled snakes would depend on the religious doctrines, not the snakes. I've no problem with snakes and would only be concerned that they weren't mistreated.

Yes, since when I was a child. It all started when I saw a snake inside our house. I killed it and after that, I had this fear of snakes.

I would never kill a snake, but I'll admit I am scared of them. I'm also scared of spiders, roaches, rats, and every other kind of pest.

As a scientist I would handle snakes in connection to a study. As a person involved in religion - I am not sure what you mean. If it is to tempt G-d to protect me - I think not.

I would, but I would eventually get bitten and go a bit off on the idea.
I never minded getting bitten by snakes, provided they weren't poisonous or too big.
I like exmining animals, and if I see a snake I usually pick it up to admire it. I'm not careful about it. I just reach down and grab at whatever part I can reach. The snake usually latches onto my arm, but I just carefully pry it off, so as not to hurt it.
It's just a tiny scratch, not itchy and obnoxious like a mosquito bite.
