are we real?

Hi all! Firstly I'm neither religious nor Athiest, just to get that out of the way :)

My question is very simple: are we real?

I'm not qualified enough to talk about artificial intelligence/artificial evolution, but isn't it a little bit possible that we are some sort of experiment? to me, this is easier to believe than just to settle with 'god exists, he just does and that's that'.

There's games such as sims, many of you might know it? perhaps we are just a very advanced version of something like this created by a much more advanced civilisation? there's no reason not to believe this at-all, is there? and just like a game, it has a developer/developers, perhaps the developers of our artificial universe are who we refer to as god/gods? and therefore god does exist, but not in a way that many people like to believe or have even considered.

If i am to ever believe in god, then this theory would be the only way. It just takes an open mind. And I find it much more interesting to question things 'that's science' than to just accept what is written in a book and never question it 'religion'.

We'll never have answers, not until we die. Until then all we can do is speculate :/ are we real? don't feel insulted, I'm not referring to god as a game developer lol... but that what it pretty much boils down to :D perhaps i could refer to him as a scientist? I will accept there is a god in this case, but i wont accept there is a god because there just is and always has been.

edit: for me to accept there is a god in the theory i mentioned above, i would need that theory to be proven correct with no doubt. same as any other theory, equally. And no one can do that here.

What evidence do you have besides imagination, you are not real.

that's kind of like religion. I'm not looking for evidence here, I'm just wondering if anyone has even considered this or what they think about it.. I don't want a debate and I don't want someone to provide any evidence because I know they can not.

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that we are real. In fact there is no evidence whatsoever that the universe itself is real but might be an elaborate simulation.

Rene Descarte said "I think, therefore I am". He also said (this is rather paraphrased) that the only thing we really know for certain is that each of us exists; that anything else could be imagined or a delusion or illusion.

This is a discussion that best spoken of in the Philosophy forum. :)

Just the factual evidence you refuse, billions of years of evolution and fossils.

It is a religious issue because there are at least two or three religions that suggest our reality just might be an illusion

that's my point.. and I just find it a lot more interesting than to settle with 'god made it, end of'.

Let's say a god made it. Then so what? Does that mean god made reality the way we think of it as something concrete and objective? Or could have god made to be more fluid or malleable and subjective, maybe the whole thing is nothing more than a god's thought or daydream.
