Are You A Author?

I am just curious how many writers we have on the forum. Do you or have considered writing and publishing a work of writing? It is so easy to self-publish these days. If you have published, I would like to read about your experience.

I self-published my second book in late October, and am working on my third, which I hope to release in September of next year.

As per the OP, both books have been interesting experiences for me. The actual publishing process was relatively easy -- once I had the manuscript and cover art lined up. I used Amazon, which was recommended to me as the easiest route to take for a first timer.

For me, the most disagreeable part of the job has been promoting and advertising the books. I used to love that sort of thing, but it's an old, familiar, and boring game now, and I'd rather be doing most anything besides it. Fortunately, I don't need the sales for income.

The most pleasing surprise has been that after I published my second book, a few people have written to me saying the book has the "feel of literature" or is "literary". I didn't get that with the first book, and I take words like those as compliments.

I've done two books with a hybrid publisher, who specialises in mental health literature

But I no longer stand by what I wrote in them and neither of them was either critically or commercially successful and it cost me a lot of money to do - so I actually regret doing them both

I know that no traditional publisher would ever publish anything I could ever write

I wrote a very small book only today. Well. It's more of an article, it's that small

I uploaded it to here on RF to be available for free, it can be found in this post:

A Free Book! - "Past, Present, Future"

It's about God and aliens and stuff

But nobody has thus far commented on it :(

Why do you ask? Are you working on a book yourself?

That's correct. Thanks for remembering. See post #3 in this thread for some details.

I wouldn't ask the title if your work due to the anonymity of the forum, but of the 3 books, what is the subject of your favorite one, if it's possible to say without revealing your identity.

Did you go only with a Kindle edition or did you also go with print?

I self-published 3 books 20 years back. It was a learning experience for sure. I'm working on one now, again. It might be ready in a couple of months or less. I'll announce it here. it's much better than the previous 3, as I'm taking way more time.
I also co-wrote several stories for a religious (Hindu) group I belong to. They were fictional, but included practical advice. I find I'm happier working alone on it, and was writing just now before coming here.

What are you writing?

The work i did was collaboration/contribution, flow diagrams and graphics, a paragraph or few/maybe a chapter. I didn't do the publishing, so can't comment on that.

The first time I went simultaneously with both Kindle and print. The print outsold the Kindle by a wide margin -- which Amazon states somewhere in their author's guide is pretty much the opposite of what should happen. This second time around, I have put off the Kindle version until at least January. The book is currently only out in paperback.
