Following a Post I wrote, I Heard the claim that Atheism is claiming there is No god,
I tried correcting the person and explaining him that Atheism is the lack of belief in a God.
Its not saying there is no God, rather saying you don't believe there is A god based on current evidence.

I Would love hearing Atheists POV on the matter..

That is the distinction between strong and weak atheism. Both are atheisms.

It can become difficult to follow, mainly because we are talking about definitions derived from a concept that is often treated as if it were well-defined ("God") despite being anything but.

To tell you honestly, that sounds like trying to hang on to theism. "God exists" is a claim or a belief not a fact. How can you disbelieve in something you know doesn't exist.

Even if I didn't experience what some call god, studied, and put the dots together, why and how would it be possible to think there is a deity to believe in? If it isn't taught to me, I would be an atheist not because I didn't believe but because I know.

"I believe there is no god" sounds like hanging on to theism. "I believe there is no god but I won't say there is none."

It kinda slides with agnosticism "I believe there is no god and it cannot be proven that I am right or wrong."

But if you're watching t.v. and looking at the Terminator (Arnold) kill people, I won't say "I believe he didn't kill people." I'd say "I know he didn't kill people" only because I know he is acting.

I can't predict the future; and, saying "I know" doesn't mean you are saying you know everything and everything won't change. It just says that what you know of reality as you know it evidence or not, you know it's not true.

Even believing the news is hard. I used to volunteer at the US Capitol and people from other countries believe that the US is like X. They come and ask question about the US history and look around the capitol, library of congress, and so forth. Then they live and experience what it is like living as an American, then they know what they believed is not true. They are no longer agnostic (I believe but it could not be proven) to I know (it has already been proven).

In my opinion, in order to get to that "I know" is experience. Study isn't enough and philosophizing isn't enough.

For me it's both depending on what and who one means by god

Atheism ca work either way.
I'm a hard atheist, I have a certain level of absolute certainty that no historically mentioned gods exist.
I can't prove they don't, nor do I care to try to.

i believe there is a faintly, faintly, faintly, remote chance that there is a god.
i believe it's much, much, much remote than that, that a god would be anything like men have depicted.

I think God as it is put out, is strictly conceptual , not reflecting the actuality of the environment by which concepts embellish and fabricate things that are not present.

Basically God does and say whatever it is that people do and say. If people are silent and do nothing, then God is silent and does nothing.

Atheism is simply a response to theism. There is no purpose or meaning much less a position beyond that.

Lets be honest there is a 99.9% chance that there is no god, as there is no fairies in my back garden.
To equate God with fairies in your backyard garden betrays a very narrow definition of God, that which little children imagine.

Suggesting that there is only a 0.1% chance that there is a god is anything but honest. You have no data at your disposal to arrive at such a conclusion. It is pure speculation on your part, and there is nothing honest about speculation. Speculation is just speculation, or in this case 98% wishful thinking.

Well you seem to know it all, then give me your proof, and don't quote from your made up book.

The phrases mean the same thing. We can only lack belief where there is nothing worth believing.

Its not saying there is no God, rather saying you don't believe there is A god based on current evidence.

That you don't believe in a proposition means that you believe the proposition to be false.

It's not an issue of "strong vs. weak," it's just an issue of the English language.

How about the prophesy of Daniel chapter 9, verse 25 stating 300 years before Christ the exact day that Christ would make his triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem as King and Messiah? Oh wait, never mind that. I forgot that I was talking to someone who doesn't really care to know the truth.

My evidence of God is in me. It is not for you. I cannot give it to you. The evidence I have apparently isn't meant for you. If it was, you'd have your own evidence.

Yes, there are so many beliefs out there, and of course yours another, so yes I would like to hear what or how you see God.
As much as I'm willing to try to share what my views are, the question of this thread is about those who embrace atheism, and what do they do know that the God they know of doesn't exist. I don't want to distract it with what I have done with that very question.
