Hiya, My name's Aimee and I'm hoping to raise money for ActionAid by doing a sponsored climb of mount kilimanjaro. I went to Tanzania and helped set up an orpanage, now I would like to help more people in poverty.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I can go about fundraising or has done anything similar in the past? Would appreciate advice :)

First, you are going to need a facebook page. Secondly, you will need a demo-gauge for rallies and such. Thirdly, leaflets.

Have a product co-branded with your organization's logo, website, and other info. Find others interested in your cause and get their help selling the product. Don't try for a huge markup at first, but do make some profit for the organization. The idea at first is to let your organization and cause be known by distribution of the co-branded product. See it as a leaflet that someone will not throw away.

fundraising is not easy, it requires alot of publicity campaign and some startup money to get it going. Most important it requires eloquent public speakers to get people move by their words and start donating to the cause their preaching. Good luck my friend. Let me know if you want some volunteers yourself in the near future, I am from Sudan, been to kenya and uganda in the past, but have live in the US for almost 20 good yrs. Sami

My advice is to affiliate yourself with a non-profit organization whose mission is similar to your own. There's little logic in reinventing the wheel. You may be able to follow through with the fundraiser that you have in mind but with the support of the organization you affiliate yourself with. Just a thought...

I speak from experience here. My partner and I have a marketing group who so far have only worked with religious charities and helped them raise money in a short period of time. We have been able to do this, because the burden is on the charity itself. We have a time tested method that can generate $2 a person in less than 5 minutes time. To explain, we are able to do a short lead generation for something completely free and for a download or small amount of information, the charity makes money. We square it away for them on the front end and stay in touch and fund them as people take the 5 minute action. This may be something that you could do. Never know.
