Are you going to get the flu shot (H1N1)?

Done here.
I was planning to get the shot, although I usually don't get a flu shot. (I think I may have got one once, or maybe I only intended to; I'm not sure.) It sounds like there may be more demand than the supply can meet, though, and I hate to push myself forward at the possible expense of someone who may need it more. I've had relatively few health problems and I've already lived very nearly fifty years, so I'm willing to take my chances.

Wampus pointed out that one of the manufacturers of the H1N1 shot happens to be the same company (Baxter) that recently shipped out live H5N1 (avian flu with 60 % kill rate) virus batches to 18 countries (link) packaged as vaccine.

With that in mind, there is no way in hell I am getting vaccinated.

Edit: after some digging, I can't be sure exactly what happened there. Between the official denials from Baxter and the exaggerated claims from conspiracy nuts, it was anywhere between one instance of a "contaminated" virus being sent to a lab "by accident" in the Czech Republic (Baxter's official story) and a global conspiracy involving chemtrails and everything (nutters).

The real story has to be somewhere in between, but that's a pretty wide margin.

I think I already had it in late September. Started out with a sore throat and a cough, and turned into evil fever/chill/ache thing that lasted two full days, and then lingered for a while in minor form. What makes me suspicious that it was the H1N1 variety was that for those first 3 or so days I have never been so tired in my entire life. I could barely keep my eyes open for more than a half hour at a time, and then I'd be knocked out again. Went to work on the 4th day, and felt like a zombie, minus the craving for brains. I've never had a cold or flu feel like that before, and I saw that "fatigue" was one of the major symptoms for H1N1.

Anyway, not a big flu shot fan to begin with. I'm a healthy 23 year old, and I really think these sorts of vaccines should be restricted only to those who are at very high risk. It seems to me that we are just making ourselves more vulnerable to a really bad virus/bug down the road.
