As an atheist...

How unimportant and small we are.

How contradicting most Gods are.

How the religious peoples' idea of the spiritual world is very unlike how it should be. (picturing God as anthropomorphic male with a beard, ghosts as anthropomorphic fog, angels as anthropomorphic fog... with wings, etc)

What exactly do you mean? I focus on enjoying this one life, the only life I will ever have, and recognizing what an awesome chance it is, whether fantastic or terrible, to be aware and who I am. Millions of years of evolution, unknowable amount of randomness, and I just so happen to be here, in this form, with these traits and mindsets? That incredible, far greater than a being who can do anything stickin me here for no apparent reason.

Currently I am focusing on sleeping since I'll be watching 9 hours of Batman tomorrow with 4 of my best friends. Haha, sleeping. My body is laughing at my feeble attempts.

What do you focus on that makes you an atheist?

I'm not sure I understand the question.
Are you asking why I consider myself an atheist, as in how I reached that conclusion?
If so, then the answer is simple; there is no evidence to support the existence of a god or gods.
That's what it really boils down to. ;)

What do you mean?

Immortalflame, new to this site, can I ask you clearify what you meant by your response? Was it in a general reference or about yourself?
More general than personal, I would say. A person doesn't have to hold a specific "focus" to be an atheist, all they have to do is lack a belief in a God.

Would not someone first have to acknowledge the existance of God or even just the possibility in order to then say they do not believe?
Not necesarilly, although I would certainly argue that to ascribe the position of "atheist" to someone or something that has not at least been presented with the concept of God as being somewhat redundant and meaningless, I would nontheless say that it is technically true under the broad definition of atheism.

How would you define atheist in your terms? I know there are many views, but help me to understand where you are coming from.
No problem.

I define atheism in what I refer to as the "broadest terms", meaning "anybody who does not hold a belief in a God". Individual definitions of what constitutes a "God" tend to vary, but for the sake of this particular subject I start with the definition "an intelligent, supernatural agency responsible for the creation andor maintenance of the Universe or some aspect of it".

So, for example, I am an atheist since I don't believe any intelligent, supernatural beings exist or are responsible for the creation of the Universe.
A newborn baby is an atheist since they have yet to learn about the concept of a God and, therefore, fall into the category of not holding a belief in one (though, as previously stated, pointing out that people are technically "born atheist" doesn't really add any significance to the position).
A person who, when asked "do you believe in God" responds with "I don't know" (or, any answer other than "yes") is an atheist, since they have yet to take the position that they believe in the existence of a God.
A person calls themselves a deist and claims that "God is energy" also classes as an atheist by my definition, since their definition of "God" does not meet the criteria for "God" as defined in atheism.

Revoltingist, Why are you then focused on this discussion? If there be no God then there is no need to focus on proving his non- existence.

But *belief in gods* does exist, and is fairly widespread. The fact that a person doesn't have it can be relevant and useful information sometimes.

What do you focus on that makes you an atheist?
The investment of belief. "God" is many things: a story or parable; a caricature or invisible friend; an image or idea; a framework or superstructure; a mystery or the great unknown. But god is effortless. We know god (no quotes) without trying to nail down "God" in words, definition and things in which to believe; to drive in nails is atheism.

the universe is not a closed system...it is constantly expanding.
An expanding system could still be a closed system.
But I suspect that our little universe is not a closed system for other reasons....all that recent physics stuff, ya know.
