OK, let me break this down a bit.

I'll start with the last part. Christian Capitalists do rule this country. From Capitol Hill and the White House, to state and local governments, I'll bet that 90% of politicians identify as both. Amongst the top echelons of the powerful it's probably higher.

One of the biggest problems I see with USA is that the fundamental values of Christianity and Capitalism are incompatible. One cannot prioritize both Jesus and Adam Smith without a solid dose of schizophrenia. Our Lord Jesus Christ never suggested that "work hard and be self reliant, then you'll be materially successful, happy, and Saved." Quite the opposite, Jesus said, "What you do for the Least you do for Me." And "Store not treasure that rust and moth will devour, but store up treasure in Heaven".
But storing up treasure, capital, regardless of the effects on your fellow man is exactly what Capitalism is based on.


Socialism is a lot more like institutionalized Christianity than Capitalism, which is rather like the Law of the Jungle(somewhat tamed and codified).

I imagine that if one were to sit down and discuss such
ideas wit h "Jesus" he would be inclined to agree that if
you do not work hard and be self reliant you will have
nothing to give to the poor, or anyone else.

regardless of the effects on your fellow man is exactly what Capitalism is based on.

Aside from that this simply is not true, we notice that
you pay no heed to that the effects of capitalism
does not merely include, but it primarily the means
by which hundreds of millions have been rescued from
privation.

It sure was not "give you all to the poor".

I wouldn't expect a modern Chinese atheist girl to have much understanding of the ethics of a 2000 year old Jewish heretic.

But I was raised soaking in it.

This is not a judgement, just an observation.

ETA ~I can also see the social schizophrenia in Chinese Communist culture. And Hong Kong. I'm not judging here so much as pointing out that such moral codes, based on utterly incompatible foundations, are quite common in the Family of Mankind and we'd be better off without. But I'm not holding my breath.~

You're going to move in with me here in Indiana? Or are you going to fight Christian morality from Hong Kong?

How about you fight your battles with what you have, and I fight mine with what I have? Where we are.

I spent some time in the street opposing the government's war on Iraq. It cost me a lot, in this small conservative Republican place. Have you ever taken to the streets opposing the government?
