Yikes! I can't imagine working for four months without pay. Can't you look for work elsewhere?

I'm 7 months close to finish 10 years in this stupid company. When It's done, I will deserve a full month salary for each year after that as an end of service bonus. It will make a serious difference for me. I'm not married and still live with the family, so I think I can hold on for these 7 months. I have a feeling they are trying to push us to resign with this dirty trick. Resignation now will hurt me in having less end of service bonus because it does so by the rules compared to termination, and taking away my 10 year benefit.

Queensland is in the NE part of Australia - the tropics.

Then NZ probably is similar to it. Cool!

I'm too nervous to go anywhere in Indonesia because of terrorist activities, but the price sounds good for a 10 day stay plus hotel. Hawaii and Mexico are the cheap spots from where I live.

I'm worried about this too, so I would never let others get involved in it with me in this trip. I thought about it an said since it's only me with no one to worry about, I think I can manage. I'll wear a bullet proof vest :p

Good. You deserve that compensation package and much more. A decade is a large chunk of experience so you should be able to secure a better job. I hope you find a place you like working. I know this job has been challenging in that regard.

Quite a bit chillier and the summers are cool and not usually warm. Still, it's gorgeous!

I wish you would pick somewhere safer. How about Europe? The flight wouldn't be any higher in price and you could stay in hostels.

I'm actually not fixated at the places I mentioned. I'm widely open to suggestions. My choice for Indonesia, or rather not for a Western or European country, is because I'm a Middle Eastern Muslim and had some weird thoughts because of the latest events against Muslims. Are hostels clean and good priced compared to hotels? In Bali, the room I took was rated ~$54 USD a night. The ~1,200 USD price I mentioned before was for my trip to Bali. There was tons of Westerners and Europeans there, by the way. Any idea if I won't get in trouble because of my ethnicity? But back to your point, I think it would be a nice idea too if the European place I'd visit know English and the food prices are good. The first main reason I'd travel is for food :D

It depends what country. I could tell you that locals where I live aren't prone to violence against foreigners. I go often to a store where one of the clerks wears a hijab. Never heard or seen anyone disrespect her even.

Yes, they will. At least if I leave them, they will, or the court can force them to do it. Dunno why the court isn't forcing them to pay the salaries in due time tho.

Cool. I'm actually not worried about the violence more than the expected attitude/demeanor/behavior. Is the Muslim clerk a local? I mean, I look like a middle easterner. This is another factor than Muslim. Actually, I could at some point not look Muslim clearly.

I wouldn't recommend England, we live on fish and chips here. :p

You have family and friends that help if you run out of money though while waiting for it?

I'm guessing she is from asia, I've seen other Muslims work in stores but they do not wear hijab. For some reason this lady has this positive friendliness about her that people wouldn't care what she looked like :D

But you are right, people are now a bit scared about the middle-east in general. It's not the best time to travel. I hope things change though!

Dude, you'd be fine, it's nowhere near that bad. In the UK, Netherlands, Germany etc you see loads of people who look Middle Eastern, hijabs are an everyday sight etc. I stayed at a hostel in Munich where there was a Muslim woman from Egypt or somewhere, and a British guy who was half-Egyptian, so you can travel that way fine as an Arab.

Most people can't really tell the difference between Indians, Pakistanis and Arabs here anyway, but it's basically a non-issue, something people are only marginally aware of, because so many young people in parts of Europe are from these backgrounds, lots of immigrants around etc. If you act differently then that has more of an effect, there is an unfortunate trend among many Muslim communities to see themselves as separated off from other people (esp. recent immigrants) although this isn't universal, but that feeds into prejudice. But you're not like that!

159,000 people in the UK speak Arabic! And another 99,000 speak Turkish and 76,000 speak Persian :) France even more, they've got about a million people speak Arabic as a first language (edit: and about 4 million total).

There's been some tension but I honestly don't think you'd have any real problems.

Did... did you just say fish?

I can live on fish all my life :p

Yes, I do. This is one thing people in my culture are sure of and never worry about really. I'm living with my parents now actually.

I heard those people have distinctively attractive facial features.

Ah, yes. I hope one day things change to the best. I think I'll just stay home playing video games and watching cartoon :D

Thanks man. I, for myself, assure that whoever knows me, get a good impression of me. The problem is in the first impression. I just hope that over there it is not the case like in USA where they confuse Sikhs for Muslims and violate them.

You'll need that more if you go to America :D

Oh, there I'd wear a double :p

Don't be scared of Indonesia (except maybe the boats and planes and poor quality healthcare). There's probably a greater chance of being the victim of violence in Europe or America.

I wanted to tell her that too, I wasn't perfectly sure since my experience is with Bali only. Indonesian people are really nice and friendly, as I experienced. Even the serious looking ones I managed to make them smile at me easily.

They have nice food in France too. ;)

I'm so not gonna trust you in this :p

Even there, that's just the stuff you hear on the news, it's very much a minority who would get violent, or even prejudiced, about it.

I changed the text to asian, since I'm not actually sure where they are from and I don't think it's polite to ask.

Comparing news reports, I doubt that. Would need to see statistics.

Yup, I'm familiar with the British Fish & Chips. I had an argument once that those French fries are called chips too.

Aaah, so it's a propaganda like those against Muslims and Arabs!

I've been to Bali myself and stayed for a week, which is in Indonesia. There were tons of Westerns and Europeans and they were really happy. But yeah, it's just a week and I'm only one person.

Not really a propaganda, I don't think - just looking at the most dramatic things.

And Bali is, well, Bali :)
