Do you think social media sites should have an age restriction?
Don't most have a 13 age restriction, even though it seems many much younger are on these? I still think closer control of porn sites should be the norm (proper evidence for being 18+), but wherever children are there will be those adults who would want to access them for nefarious purposes - so whatever they access should be monitored properly too.

If you want to call asking "Are you such and such age" and by clicking 'yes' which allows you access a restriction. 5 year olds could do that.

As I said, many under 13 apparently are on such sites - so no, I hardly think they are truly monitoring or controlling the ages of those on such sites.

If you ask for an image of a driver's license, rummaging to find them by kids will happen. And of course some parents will decide it's OK and let their kids use their accounts or kids will use their parent's accounts anyway. There is no perfect solution except getting rid of the internet.

Yeah there isn't much of a solution. Any kid could use his parents or siblings ID.

I say that no one really expects or even wants a perfect solution.
Some kids will gain access. Some will be thwarted.
Increasing the proportion of the latter is the real goal.
And "security theater" makes people feel good.

I prefer its left to the parents. Age doesn't mean much...

There are some things I let Ares do that I wouldn't let LeeAnder do at the same age.

Their motives are what make the difference for me.

There are some adults that probably shouldn't have social media access...

The object of the proposed law changes in Australia is to try and prevent youth suicide caused by online bullying and to try and prevent online grooming by child abusers.

I assume the other countries considering similar changes are doing it for the same reason.
