At Christmas do you like sitting by an open fire?

We have a gas fireplace.
For some reason, it's just not the same.

I like to sit in front of the log burner on any winter evening. But it's not open so does that count?

No. In my house that would be highly problematical and temporary at best.

My wife's and my pattern for decades now is to go to mass on Christmas Eve, come home and turn on the fireplace, play Dan Fogelberg's beautiful Christmas CD that we only play once until the following year, crack open a bottle of Asti Spumanti, and talk very little while it's playing.

My mother-in-law was with us one time when we did this, and she got tears in here eyes on how beautiful this all was.

And yes, we do finish the bottle.

I love open fires but we can't have them because of my wife's allergies. And our house has no fireplace.

I've never had the chance to sit by an open fire ever on any occasion. But I love Christmas none the less. It's about being around people you love and celebrating Jesus Christ's birth.
