at Madison Square Garden: an Ugly "Carnival of Grievances, Misogyny and Racism"

From The New Yoork Times:

Donald J. Trump’s closing rally at Madison Square Garden on the second to last Sunday before the election was a release of rage at a political and legal system that impeached, indicted and convicted him, a vivid and at times racist display of the dark energy animating the MAGA movement.
A comic kicked off the rally by dismissing Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” then mocked Hispanics as failing to use birth control, Jews as cheap and Palestinians as rock-throwers, and called out a Black man in the audience with a reference to watermelon.
Another speaker likened Vice President Kamala Harris to a prostitute with “pimp handlers.” A third called her “the Antichrist.” And the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson mocked Ms. Harris — the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father — with a made-up ethnicity, saying she was vying to become “the first Samoan-Malaysian, low IQ former California prosecutor ever to be elected president.”
By the time the former president himself took the stage, an event billed as delivering the closing message of his campaign, with nine days left in a tossup race, had instead become a carnival of grievances, misogyny and racism.
A bit further down the article we read ...
... Mr. Trump has paid little political price over time for his own inflammatory remarks in the past — he has disparaged cities with large Black populations such as Detroit and Milwaukee this year — let alone those of his surrogates and supporters.
The marathon of speeches — Mr. Trump took the stage two hours after scheduled — was often infused with more self-indulgence than political strategy. Mr. Trump plainly enjoyed playing the Garden, which bills itself as “the world’s most famous arena.”

That "Trump has paid little political price" is an understatement -- one need only monitor RF's Trumpettes -- and this may prove to be MAGA's most deplorable legacy.

WAPO chose to lead with a story about Billionaires and CEOs caving.
The gathering of the Business Council — an invitation-only association of chief executives — at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach in Dana Point was not supposed to be about the election, but some attendees wound up discussing how to protect themselves and their companies if Trump wins the presidency next week and tries to use the power of the Oval Office against his perceived enemies, said the people, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations.

Though the next article joins the fray.

Trump rally speakers lob racist insults, call Puerto Rico ‘island of garbage’

Later, Trump took the stage at Madison Square Garden and called the GOP “the party of inclusion.” His campaign issued a statement disavowing the “garbage” comment.

Yes, Trump's GOP is inclusive all right, they are all bad except us.

This is more that echos of Madison Square Garden 1939. It is an affirmation of its message.

Many pro-Harris pundits are warning that the campaign should should be

telling the the voters what they will do for them and their families, neighbors, and friends,

rather than

telling the the voters what MAGA will do to them and their families, neighbors, and friends.
The assumption is that dishing out promises will out perform warning of threats. It's called leaning into the future with eyes wide shut.

It's called "taking the high road... ... ... ... straight to the top of a cliff and then jumping off it".

All part of a destructive spiral, gradually gathering momentum. Trumpers justify themselves by making up or swallowing whole mad tales about satanic cabals and other great evils Trump is warring against, at some point those phantasms become their reality and then can be used to justify whatever comes next. A slow slide to 'they had it coming', whatever it turns out to be. Same basic stuff that got Hitler into power. People want to have money in their pockets now, and to feel good about whatever national narrative they grew up on or have bought into. Promise that, provide an easy scapegoat or two and bingo, you get votes. Naturally, anyone in that position will hate anyone else who tries to tell them taking the fast cash now will lead to problems later, or who points out the narrative is at best partially true.

Didn't they have a comedian speaker who made jokes? He insulted everyone including the audience but everyone laughed. The Puerto Rico joke started with him talking about the environment and there being an island of trash floating on the ocean, referring to recyclables that were sent overseas and then dumped into the ocean. Then he said, Puerto Rico.

Puerto Ricans were among the first mass immigration of the modern era, from the 1960's, and many settled in NYC and the North East. Now they are well established members of the community. They were already citizens, since Puerto Rico was part of the USA. It is actually a beautiful tropical paradise that was hit by a hurricane and still has some debris after years of rebuilding. The Puerto Ricans in the audience laughed since it is a joke.

They also had two dozen speakers that included Hulk Hogan and Elon Musk. This was NYC, but the DNC has no sense of humor. That is still better than the unified DNC Nazi hate and fear approach. I would prefer a few laughs over their reincarnated boggy man illusion. TV psychologist, Dr Phil, also spoke and made a good point about why Trump is not a bully. He said a bully needs an imbalance of power and Trump does not have the power. Trump, from the underdog position argues, and is better at it.

The Left cannot tell the difference between legal and illegal immigration, anymore that they see a difference between shoppers and shoplifters. With the DNC propaganda wing up in arms, and all crying foul like a chorus, the Trump rally must have been effective and did the job it was designed to do.

What did I learn from what I saw of the Trump rally.. That these right wingers truly hate non-whites. They are furious that non-whites are part of America. If MAGA is given power and authority and this anger persists, it is going to be ugly for all of us. Look at how @wellwisher tries to blame democrats and ethical conservatives for not being aware of legal and illegal. That isn't the threat. The threat is MAGAs being racist and not caring whether a brown skinned person is in the USA legally or not. Look at the hostility towards DEI. They fake criticism for DEI to hide their racism against black people. We liberals aren't stupid, they know exactly what their feelings are and what they will di to minimize the liberties of any group they attack. Women are their targets too.

As a white male I'm not a target that can suffer direct consequences of MAGA in power. But I am a democrat, and that means I am Trump's enemy, according to him. What will a disturbed man with mental decline want to do you me, to the women I know, to the non-whites I know? If I was him and in power that is immune from any accountability I wouldn't think twice about harassment, criminal investigation, intimidation for things I say on forums and social media? Of course I have a moral sense and wouldn't do any of these things to anyone. MAGAs seem to lack any normal ethical and moral sense that is the core guiding factor in democracy and liberty.

This was NYC, but the DNC has no sense of humor.

What did you find funny?

With the DNC propaganda wing up in arms, and all crying foul like a chorus, the Trump rally must have been effective and did the job it was designed to do.

Given your comments, I have no choice but to admit that hate and misogyny has clearly "been effective and did the job it was designed to do" with at least one person.

Incorrect. The comedian called Puerto Rico and it's people trash.
Why are you here defending racism? I know why.

The Trump campaign is distancing itself from the racist joke. But you're not, lmao.

Agreed, save for your "lmao" addendum. I see nothing to laugh at.

I don't care how far Trump tries to distance himself. They chose this so-called comedian who was known for making disgusting racist comments.

And Trump himself has a history of making racist disrespectful comments about Puerto Rico or Puerto Rican people. Calling Puerto Ricans lazy and ungrateful, talking about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland etc. Trump is just as disgusting as this "comedian". Trump cannot distance himself from himself.

I did not read the rest of your post, because the first paragraph contained a most egregious mis-statement that appears to have been made on purpose.

That comedian was most definitely NOT referring to recyclables or anything else in the ocean EXCEPT Puerto Rico. He did NOT just say, "Puerto Rico" as some inexplicable non-sequitur. And if you had quoted him, you would know that, which is why I think you did not quote him.

He said, and I quote in full: “There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

It's right in the open:

'Floating Island of Garbage' (Puerto Rico)

'These Latinos, They Love Making Babies'

'We Carved Watermelons Together' (racist comment about Blacks)

Harris Is 'the Antichrist'

Harris and 'Pimp Handlers'

'Nazi rally' "I get back and they go, 'Sid, you want to speak at this MSG thing?' I go, 'Sure—out of character for me to speak at a Nazi rally. I was just in Israel.' But I took the gig."
