Atheism vs. Anti-Theism

Storm

ThrUU the Looking Glass
isn't theism labeling the concept of god?
"god wants this or that"
"god is this"

does deism label god?
not that i am aware of.

since an atheist doesn't believe there is a god...there is no label
the deist is open to the existence of god but doesn't label god
Ah, I see. Semantic confusions strikes again - you were using the priceis meaning of theism.

Which raises another question for the self-labelled anti-theists among us:
By "theism," do you mean any belief in God, or proper theism a la Abrahamism?

semantic confusion is to be expected in religious forums.

No more or less than theism, atheism, or any other category. Which is to say, it depends on the individual.

for me, it's better to be in a state of questioning then not and for some reason the anti theist deism works for me...at least for now.
;)

i would also argue that theism/athiesm claims to know something that is no way capable of being confirmed.

Not really theism and atheism are beliefs one is belief/faith in god the other is the lack off. No knowing involved.

i go back and forth on that one.
atheism claims there is no god, but by what evidence...?
lack of evidence isn't proof for anything.

not knowing compels some to decide

Well personaly I think some ones level of atheism and agnosticism depends on which concept of god is being dsicussed.
For example the god of abraham is easier to discredit then a deist god.
That being said claiming to know is not atheism though some atheist will make the claim

i agree but i would also extend that to;
any god is easy to discredit not just the god of abraham.

atheism such a hard concept...
at first i thought i was an atheist...because of what you said in regards to discrediting the god of abraham...but my little world expanded to realizing there are many concepts of god...

i don't know if there is a 1st cause, i'm open to that however, i am not open to any label which makes me an anti theist....

would you equate non theist with anti theist?
i'm not sure what the difference is

Theism tends to be faith based not about knowing but believing.. and atheist don know either..though I think this depends on the god concept being used. Ie It might be safe to say definitely that you god does not exist but I would not feel the same about a god... ya know

I went through the same thing but stuck with atheism because I still do not believe nor do I see a god as needed.
