Aussie slang

I'm far more likely to call Americans "Yanks"...can honestly say I've never called them "Seppos".

I remember having to explain to my Canadian friend, Liz, what a "chook" was. Funny, that wasn't on either of those slang lists...

Really? Weird, I call those boys nextdoor who make crystal meth in their garage "chemists" :biglaugh:
Come on guys, that was a great joke! Not even the slightest laugh?

Chook is also a descrption.ie old lady= "old chook"
That too. But I said someone was running around "like a chook with its head cut off", and then I had to explain to her what a chook was. I'd have thought it was obvious... :p

I'm really glad I started this thread - it looks like we should have more Aussie shivoos

Actually kreed, the phrase "Have a shag in the back of a ute" is a valid slang term in Aus..
A look, Soul. Have you no relatives who were in the war?
Also known as 'having a butchers.' which is short for butchers hook - look

Ok, here's a bit of a list we (Bastet and I) came up with: see if you can work them out...

Horse and Cart - think stench
Pat Malone - as in 'on your pat...'
Cotton Wool - guys...one for you. Call it forbidden fruit
Tom Tit - sometimes following the horse and cart
Pork Pies - what you might tell your mother if she caught you having a cotton wool
Almond Rocks - go on your feet before your shoes
Elephants Trunk - the result of too many beers
Brussels Sprouts - wear a green uniform and do bob-a-job
Khyber Pass - All tied up with the Horse and Cart/Tom Tit combo

Some non rhyming ones:

barker's eggs
bum nuts
laughing gear

Some lovely expressions -

Full as a school outhouse
All over the place like a mad womans breakfast
As useful as a pork chop in a synagogue
As useful as tits on a bull
Shifty as a sh*thouse rat (or cunning as, in Bastet's version)
Carrying on like a 2 bob watch
Built like a brick sh*thouse
Shivering like a cat sh*tting razorblades
Black as the inside of a dogs guts
Mad as a cut snake
(and my personal favourite) Busy as a one armed taxi driver with crabs.
