Should birth control be available over the counter?

I think perhaps when a woman first goes on the pill they should have to go see a doctor so the doctor can try and give the right one to them and after that should just get them over the counter and as long as no side effects no need to see the doctor again.

In America adults have control over their childs health needs until they are 18?! I think in Scotland since I was 10 I have had the right to confidential health care without my parents having any input or any knowledge.
No, minors have healthcare rights in the U.S. free of parental consent for the most part: they have the right to access contraception, drug abuse treatment, testing for stds as well as AIDS, prenatal care, childbirth healthcare, etc. with absolutely no parental consent. Though those rights do become hazy with abortion depending on the state.

I agree that the morning after pill should be available OTC, along with any other form of birth control with a low to no risk of harmful side effects.
But before giving oneself any monthly hormone treatment, one should consult with a doctor.

You said health care.?.Thats different than women and girls being able to purchase over the counter hormonal BC with no physical exam and under no drs.supervision.

Hormonal BC carries a significant risk of blood clots and stroke.Among other side effects..But you can get really ill..from taking the "prescribed" amount of it even under a drs care..

If we wan't to make hormonal BC over the counter..then why not make antibiotics..???Why not make high blood pressure medicatiion OTC? ETC..

Hormonal BC carries too high of a risk to let any ole person walk in and say "I want to buy some".

Otherwise..ALL drugs that are normally prescribed by a DR should be available OTC.Including anti depressents..blood thinners..anitibiotics...A person should be able to just walk in and buy it.

Who needs drs..

I voted yes, but I think I change my mind.

Condoms should always be easily accessible. I worry, though, that if the pill and other such birth control was available without a prescription that less people would use condoms and STDs would spread more. Perhaps the rate of unwanted pregnancies would go down, but would in cause an increase of life-long diseases?

It should be easy to get different forms of birth control, but... I think it's important to have to talk with a doctor before hand. Plus some women shouldn't be on the pill... and if a young girl has hormonal imbalances she's unaware of, and then starts taking the pill (with no supervision from a doctor), it could cause additional medical issues.
