I hope the perps are caught. I wonder if/how the people who dropped their ballots their will be made whole if their ballot was destroyed and not legible?

I can't believe how disorganised elections are in the US.
This is a brand new problem for us. I do not think that this has ever happened before in Washington state. One thing to remember, there are cameras everywhere today and it is quite possible that the perpetrators are on camera.

At any rate people that voted can probably vote again. Though who one voted for is not tracked a the fact that one voted is tracked. Names and signatures are checked when the ballots are turned in. Once verified the vote is separated from the envelope. It is not looked at. They are stored separately. I voted last week and since for the first time in a long time I did it from my home mailbox i was a bit concerned. So two days later I checked the website and it confirmed that my vote had been received and counted.

At the Washington site that was attacked they know the last time that votes were picked up there. The state is allowing those people to vote again. This does not allow unregistered voters to vote, they will already have to be registered to vote a second time. Nor does it allow double voting. As I said, they check and verify each ballot. and make a note of who voted or not. If someone tries to vote twice they will be caught.

In the UK our 'absent ballot' system is the 'Postal Vote'.
About 3-weeks before an election you receive the ballot papers, you fill them in, put them inside two envelopes (one inside the other) and put them into any postbox. The postal votes are collated and added to the in-person votes after the election has finished.

Which lends support to the position that ballot drop boxes should be in secure locations.
No doubt. Ballot boxes are the absolute stupidest thing in the first place to place at random places where they can be compromised.

If you want to vote, go to the polling station.

Apparently, the boxes were on camera and they know when they were last emptied and people know where they put their ballots.
The boards of elections have already notified people to come in and get new ballots.
For the paranoid, they are counted against a list so they can't vote twice.
It is a bunch of work added, but not any sort of major problem except the attitude that doing this was in any way reasonable.

Ah, but the post gets intercepted by Marxists.

Well they won't be needed again if democracy is made illegal come January.

Yeah, and you still have post-boxes in lots of places, we don't these are just postboxes with different labels, you can also drop your ballot into any post-box if you want, it just takes a circuitous route to get to the same place.

US mail is sorted in large stations often many miles away from any local post office, If I mail a letter to my neighbor, it goes about 100 miles to the sort office and then comes back to the local Post office the next day for delivery hopefully. On the other hand, mail from my brother 3000 miles away takes maybe a day longer.

They are not in random places, they are in places that many people pass by so as to make returns convenient. Not everybody has a secure mailbox but many often go by say the town hall and can drop it off when they go by whether the town hall is open or not.
I will be working the entire day Nov. 5 so in order to vote, I have to use an alternate methods.

Just because you are too stupid to see why they are a good idea doesn't mean the idea is stupid.

The people who set them on fire?

Or can you tell us why you think that messing with elections is a good thing?

Let me guess, you put M-80s in mailboxes on Halloween and thought it was funny.
