"Truth" isn't a thing...

Sorry, this had to be done. Too many new threads on "are you afraid of..." well, pretty much everybody. The object of fear proposed in each question is people -- people who aren't, maybe, like you. People who think differently than you, people who believe things you don't, or who don't believe things you do, or who don't care fo your music, or your art, or the colour of your skin.

Stop it!

There's nothing to be afraid of. We can easily just like one another (the religious among us will call it "love" but I think that's overkill), by simply listening to one another and finding out who each other is.

The truth -- the most real truth of all -- is that we, the inhabitants of this planet, are totally dependent upon one another for the overall well-being of everything we know or care about.

Please, stop being afraid of each other...but also stop trying to change each other. We're all fine, as we are.

To be serious for a second...yes, I know... I know... I offer this from Rosemary Harris:

My companion is fear
Walking behind me like a shadow.
He sees obstacles where none are,
He knows death as disintegration,
He comes from hell to cherish me
Saying 'turn right,' 'turn left,'
'Look, there is a lion in the road
And no resurrection.'

Yet I will make my torturer
My dear companion.
For in acceptance he grows honest,
Showing that a skeleton is only bones
And one moment no longer than another
And pain only sensation
Like the color of the rose,
Less than the falling of a leaf.

See, I shall turn my head,
Diminish him with pity,
Kill him with understanding
Even love . . .
Looking him in the eye
I shall observe his dwindling
Because he is only a shadow
Lost between me and the sun.

Showing that a skeleton is only bones
I have one of those......

It follows me in my dreams

and It has taken hold of me by the arm
on one occasion

and I awoke on my bed
laid to rest like a dead man in a coffin

the red blanket was under my hands
the pillow tucked to my shoulders neatly
I lay corner to corner
and the blanket drawn smooth .....not a wrinkle
and my arm was numb to my fingers.....from the grip It laid upon me

in the vision....It was wearing the red blanket as a hood and shawl
It's bony fingers around my arm

It returns now and then
as a shadow standing over me.....watching me sleep
escaping out the door...when I open my eyes
faster than anything living

It pulls the pillow from beneath my head to wake me
and I turn over to see someone there
there is no One

It follows me
spoiling even my most pleasant of visions

and we shall meet again
once and for all

This is not said with too much seriousness, but ya lost me here. I prefer the 'we share brotherhood in the universality of our flaws' approach once suggested by a wise man I sometimes listen to.

That we are all connected are beliefs I hold, according to my religion.
When I joined almost 50 years ago, there was a saying "one planet, one people, please."
I did not join the religion because I was searching for God, I joined because of the teachings.

I must admit I thought most of these threads were intended ironically, to show the absurdity of claiming to be afraid of this, that or the other. But maybe I misinterpreted them and they were serious ...

Stay several feet away from me and we'll be just fine, m'kay. :D
