Is there harm toward my being by dedicating my life to serve others? No :)
unconditional love doesn't make a condition of other vs self. Unity isn't unity; when anyone is excluded it isn't unified and it isn't unconditional. so if two people are drowning and neither knows how to swim, let alone how to save another, the self can't help another.

so then, self can't be excluded in unconditional; otherwise you created a condition for self and another for other as self.

so then if self has a need, it's need must be covered first. if the other as self has a need, and self has all it's needs covered, by all means.

but if other as self has a want, not a need, they have enough time to knock themselves out; unless self wants to help.

it's basically the law of reciprocity, or golden, rule. do unto others as you would have done unto you. do no harm.

abuse of anyone, including self by self or other as self, is not unconditional love

No. But there's harm in perfectionism towards it.

My life is often more about serving others, but it isn't a religious or altruistic thing. Its just the hand I got dealt. My biggest hurdle has been perfectionism; or really, telling perfectionism to buzz off...

So, I got mad. I forgot something. I was simply out of energy and couldn't complete that last task. It took me a long time to stop beating myself up about it, but until I figured that out, things were a real mess.

Its still a practice, but if you find yourself judging yourself to impossible standards and being upset with yourself for failing them, its causing harm. If you don't have this problem, or its something you're working on, keep going, you're doing great!

I am very calm about my situation and loving every moment of it. It is a pleasure to serve others and it is a calling, no matter if one see it spiritually or not.
