Believe It or Not: Israel is the 31st Highest Dues-Paying Country at the UN

Let me just say that no country that I'm aware of gives money away without having a reason, and that includes Israel, the U.S., etc. Foreign aid buys things.

Backwards... AIPAC is a lobby group on the state of Israel. They get money from Israel. They use it to lobby American politicians (this includes funding their campaign and buying them random stuff), including, send more money to Israel for aid, etc. Obviously, a portion of the money we send to Israel makes it way back to AIPAC which uses to lobby for more money, etc.

so they put a little money to get more money (support) i guess ?

are you sure Israel sent money to AIPAC ?

is possible that Lobby whom control not people (whom votes) in some cases ?

Are you suggesting that the UN ought to hush up about human rights abuses because Israel gives them a lot of money? That doesn't sound like good governance to me.

Politesse - Actually, I would be delighted if the UN actually did speak p about Human Rights violations. As things stand today, it spends most of its time singling out Israel and applying a unique and impossibly high standard on Israel while giving everyone else a pass. Have you looked at the make up of the UN's Human Rights Commission? You really need to do that before you start accusing Israel of anything.

Here is some general background reading which you might find helpful:

A clear sign of irrational bias is claiming that the actions of one side of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are completely justified while the other's aren't. Such simplistic reduction of a decades-long issue is hardly conducive to resolution; it merely exacerbates the "us vs. them" mentality already present in many people's minds on both sides of the conflict.

A clear sign of ignorance is to make silly statements pretending people are saying things that they are not. Please try harder.

Not formally. It's generally a mix of people who donate to AIPAC. However, that's going to be a mix of American money, and Israeli money, and probably a bit for others.

I'm not sure what you mean here.

Dust1n - AIPAC is supported by its members who are mostly regualr working Joes like myself. AIPAC is not different from any of the other friendship groups such as the Japan Society, the Finnish American Chamber of Commerce, etc.. AIPAC is a demstic American organization. AIPAC is supported by members of AIPAC, which provides no regular-working-Joe Litmus-test for membership. Because members of our Congress don't constitute regular-working-Joes.

It is an absurd world in which tiny Israel pays more dues to the UN - an institution primarily devoted to the deligitimization and demonization of Israel - than any Arab country, any Muslim coutnry and even more than some European countries.

Believe It or Not: Israel is the 31st Highest Dues-Paying Country at the UN

I know that this is hard to believe, and it’s absolutely ludicrous, but nevertheless true: Tiny and much-besmirched Israel is the 31st highest dues-paying country – out of 192 member countries – at the UN!

Israel pays over $40 million a year in membership fees to the United Nations, which is more than any Arab or Islamic country, and much more than any of the Third World (and some European) countries who spend a tremendous amount of the UN’s time and budget bashing Israel.

This outrageous and never-before-reported fact was recently revealed at a conference in Israel by Meirav Eilon Shahar, Director of UN Political Affairs in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. People in the audience gasped and then guffawed when they heard her mention this.
They have the bucks, (we gave it to them.)

Since it was founded in 1948, Israel has become the largest single recipient of U.S foreign assistance — a total of $121 billion,

The United States also provides Israel with financial assistance not related to defense. This includes:

Since 1973 Israel has received annual grants from the State Department’s Migration and Refugee Assistance program to assist with the resettlement of migrants in Israel. Funding levels, which were at $60 million annually as recently as 2003, have decreased in recent years, with FY2014 at $15 million and the Obama Administration requesting $10 million for FY2015.

In 2003 Israel received $9 billion in loan guarantees over three years for economic recovery. The law authorizing the guarantees stated that they could only be used within Israel’s borders prior to June 5, 1967. The U.S. Department of State later reduced the FY2003 loans by nearly $290 million because Israel continued the construction of settlements in the occupied territories and other actions. In FY2005 the available funds were cut by nearly $800 million, and Israel has not borrowed any funds since that year.

In 2012 Congress passed and the president signed a bill extending the loan-guarantee program until September 2015. “As of 2014, Israel is still authorized to issue up to $3.8 billion in U.S.-backed bonds. In general, Israel may view U.S. loan guarantees as a ‘last resort’ option, which its treasury could use if unguaranteed local and international bond issuances become too expensive.”
