Hi guys!

Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best study Qur'an. I'm looking at getting myself one to read on my Kindle, but I know how tricky it is to render the Arabic of the Qur'an into English, and I'd like to know what school of thought within Islam that the commentary in the study Qur'an is from (don't want to accidentally get commentary that's entirely from some small group radically different from what most Muslims believe).

Looking forward to hearing your guys' recommendations. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a Muslim but have read parts of the Quran from time to time. There are vastly different translations as you've noted in some places. So what I do is go to a web site that has multiple translations and read them all.

My typical example is this http://corpus.quran.com/translation.jsp?chapter=17&verse=104

I think it's also useful to read what scholars have to say to put what you read into context because I've found that there are various principles most Muslim scholars use to put the Quran into context.

One of my favorites is The Message of The Qur'an Translated and Explained by Muhammad Asad.
It features extensive notes and commentary throughout as well as helpful appendices.
