Bhagavata Purana

The whole of Shrimad Bhagvatam is great, but following are the best Cantos (Skandha)

Canto 5's chapter 3 to 14 are excellent. Especially the teachings by Shri Rishabhdev and also the teachings by Jadabharat.

Canto 10 is all about the One and only Shri Krishna's divine leelas.

Hey Riverwolf,
unfortunately I do not know of other sites. Are you just looking for online versions? Some libraries hold a few cantos of the Srimad Bhagavatam but it is of course Prabhupada translation. It isn't easy to have Hindu scriptures published considering how vast the scriptures are and thus how much money it would cost to publish and that means we have less access unfortunately.

If u want a print version, it is not very costly in India if buying in western currency. By India's standard too, a middle class person can afford it.

Thanks. Good to know. I can only use U.S. dollars; will I be able to buy an unabridged translation of the text from India with that? (Not Prabhupada's translation. lol)

If so, how much do you think it would go for?

Yeah, I'm primarily looking for online versions. My local library system doesn't have any version of the Bhagavatam, except what's found in Hindu Scripture compilations, and typically those only contain the Tenth Canto. (Although there is but ONE copy of he Uddhava Gita in the entire system. ^_^)

It is a shame that Shashtras (SP?) are so hard to find in America. But, hey, maybe someday someone will just translate all the main Puranas and Epics unabridged online for free. ;)

I do own a condensed prose version of Bhagavatam, but it's heavily abridged; I mainly intend to use it to get a bird's eye view of the text.

Absolutely. If u are going to India, best is to buy that time from a reputed book store in a big city- it is much cheaper in India. If u want to buy on line, it is difficult to be sure that it is a full version- with Sanskrit text and translation. On line is also costly. There are many on line stores (make sure u use pay pal to pay). I would certainly prefer to buy from a real store in India. I think u can buy it for about $ 75 to $100.
