Bicycles!

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Bikes are a great way to travel but here in the UK it's quite dangerous because there aren't many cycle paths and most car drivers are clueless. I always wear a helmet though! I have a fairly basic lightweight road bike. Mountain bikes are very popular here, I can't understand why because they are horrible heavy things and totally unsuited to road use....and 99% of the people who buy them never go near a mountain!
Yeah that's a valid concept. I would not be against any push to make practical bike paths along every street that we have in the states. There's a fair number of them around where I live making bicycle travel a lot easier, but it could still be improved because the traffic is insane around me.

Nah, it's perfectly safe.
I only almost died once when a guy ran me down on purpose.
Since then it's been clear sailing.

I ordered the 10 speed derailleur version, which is $1600.
I expect that to increase as accessories become available before the delivery date (July).

Tis a bunch'o money, but it's a great value, & perfect for me.
It took me about half a year to decide to buy.
and might take six minutes before you run out of breath

Running out of breath is good.....it means I'm getting exercise.
But in a few years, I might get a retro-fitted electric assist drive.
Then I can go places in the summer without arriving dripping
in <yuck> sweat <disgusting>.

I've had other folding bikes.
I carry them with me when I travel in Mr Truck (now deceased) & Mr Van.
And we vacation with them.
I plan to start collecting Rails-To-Trails trips.

I didn't like Bob's length & weight.
But his dry bag is great, so I'm keeping that to use on the Burley Travoy.

And the yak didn't give milk.
Mayhaps it was male, eh?

You have made Bob that Yak sad...all those years carrying your luggage to be cast aside and replaced with a wagon...that's just wrong

Somewhere in this thread, I came across the suggestion that one's feet should touch the ground whilst sat on the saddle. Hopefully it will coincide, but I would have thought that saddle height and position should be optimised for performance - in relation to the pedals - rather than this. I am from an era when toe-clips were all that was available, but these were undoubtedly better whilst touring, since a general purpose shoe could then be used. And the only experience I had with clip-ins was them not releasing when they should - even if they did for much before - so that I had a nasty sideways fall resulting in months of muscle pain.

Those on this thread don't seem to have commented on the Sinclair C5 - a contraption destined for the rubbish bin from the start - when ordinary cycles had so many more benefits and the C5 so many more vulnerabilities. Comments?
