Bicyclists & Runners Take Care....Some Are Out To Kill You

A theory.....
Driving a car makes us impatient. The high rate of speed might cause this.
And we've someplace to be....perhaps late for an appointment or meeting.
Anything which slows us down will upset us. And on we go...anonymous
when ensconced in several thousand pounds of steel.
Enter the cyclist....they're in our way....they're not one of us...they're different.
They look different, with their funny clothing & pedaling that odd contraption.
What does the average human do when confronted with someone different
who is in one's way?
Violence!
They deserve it...they're slowing us down!
They're vulnerable, & can't retaliate.
They don't even know who we are.
Oh, they're gonna get it!
Not how I think, but I guess that makes sense.
Myself, I accept bikes go slow. But a motorist going going 5 or more MPH below the speed limit, I want a wrecking ball to clear the way.

Happiness is enhanced by accepting the world for what it is.
One may still use one's influence to improve it.
Again, low expectations are key.

To a degree. But somethings shouldn't be accepted. Such as motorists doing 10 or more under that speed limit (and without even bothering to use their emergency flashers). Nor should it be accepted we basically don't care if someone is still able to actually drive when they renew their license.
Again, low expectations are key.
I've reached a point where I can't do that anymore. It worked in Indiana when low expectations and scrapping the bottom of the barrel was about as good as it got for me. But now my expectations have gotten so much higher.

You're young...full of idealism, energy, & impatience.
Aging will help you recover from those maladies.

I've never had patients for bad drivers. But being full of energy, optimism, and other such things, that never happened until I got here and was able to shed all the baggage Indiana piled on me.

You know, I never had an issue with someone trying to kill me while riding my bike

:D

However I did once have a Raleigh 10 speed that tried to kill me on multiple occasions

Whenever possible I avoid roads and prefer off road tracks.

I was travelling down a remote shared path on Sunday and encountered a group of young men on a secluded section. I didn’t want to show any signs of intimidation so I continued and cycled past them without incident.

Afterwards, I though there I am on a £2,000 e-bike with a Garmin satnav and mobile phone, etc. All they needed to do was knock me off the bike and take everything I possessed and if I objected, I could have been knifed.

People have been knifed in that area not long ago.

Now I am left wondering am I better off tangling with traffic in future.

Traffic is more dangerous.
Those young toughs on the path might've attacked you, but didn't.
A driver in a car did attack me.
It's a small data set, but I find it really compelling.

Unfortunately, the situation has not improved since 2009.

Thieves can steal my bike, but won't ever rob me of cycling for pleasure

This very thing could have happened to me last Sunday. It makes you think.

I carry pepper spray & a Glock #22 when I ride.
People must sense that, & leave me alone out of fear.

I'm beginning to think it is more you than you on a bike.... and you may want to consider getting one of these

I'd recommend a lighter gun for bikes, eg, Glock #18.
It could be integrated with the handlebar so that each
hand could fire while steering the bike.
Dang, I'm a genius....this could work!

For the less educated posters....
The Glock #18 is a 9mm select fire handgun which can
sport a 33 round magazine. It's full auto mode is useful
when firing from a bicycle.
