Doesn't seem like you do.Yes I do, why?
I have read and listened to about a dozen constitutional professors or lawyers, and they generally are deathly afraid of one party usurping our democratic process, especially in 2024, and I think you know which party they think is morally bankrupt enough to try and do just that.Do you think democracy is really under threat and if so by whom?
Do you want to elaborate?Doesn't seem like you do.
This is probably the best and only argument they have but it's not yet proven against Trump.I have read and listened to about a dozen constitutional professors or lawyers, and they generally are deathly afraid of one party usurping our democratic process, especially in 2024, and I think you know which party they think is morally bankrupt enough to try and do just that.
We well know what Trump tried in his phone call to the SoS of Georgia whereas he asked him to "find 11,780 votes" to overturn the results there. This is probably the best and only argument they have but it's not yet proven against Trump.
hm, that's somehow new to me but I see now:We well know what Trump tried in his phone call to the SoS of Georgia whereas he asked him to "find 11,780 votes" to overturn the results there.
My bad. I thought we were discussing the current administration.
What another administration did has what exactly to do with this discussion?
Yes... the democrats.I have read and listened to about a dozen constitutional professors or lawyers, and they generally are deathly afraid of one party usurping our democratic process, especially in 2024, and I think you know which party they think is morally bankrupt enough to try and do just that.
Yes... the democrats.
The US is currently in roughly the same place Germany was in 1930. We've already had an attempted coup by a popular leader who is manipulating to get into power. There are already threats of violence in support of this leader.
Yes... the democrats.
I can see what you mean. But it was the economic conditions (both global, and specifically caused by WW1 reparations) that tanked the economy to the point that the main conservative parties had to legitimise the National Socialists.
Fear of an external enemy (Communists) was then a ready to use excuse for the curtailing of rights. The conservatives let the fox into the hen house first, though.
In your comparison, I get that Trump is playing the role of Hitler, but it's a pretty different situation to me. We have minor parties over here, and the risk with the more extreme ones is that a major party forms coalition with them, let's them into the decision making process, band they do their work from the inside. Trump was much more explicit, and the American people voted directly for him and his...imho...rubbish rhetoric.
It's problematic...but not quite the same problem. The trick with it all, though, is that WW2 isn't particularly informative on the best way to handle the situation, since that particular attack on democracy got...well...messy.
Um... there was a stolen election. It was just stolen by manipulation of information, specifically on the internet.Beep. Look at recent history.
Who attempted to implement a coup? The Republicans.
Who discussed having 'alternative facts'? The Republicans.
Who is promoting violence for political gain? The Republicans.
Who lied about a stolen election? The Republicans.
Who has followers that mindlessly follow the supreme leader? The Republicans.
Who excludes anyone that disagrees on any issue related to the Supreme Leader? The Republicans.
Who tries to stop any inquiry into misdeeds of the Supreme Leader? The Republicans.
Who has fantasized for years about putting political opponents into jail? The Republicans.
That’s politics.Um... there was a stolen election. It was just stolen by manipulation of information, specifically on the internet.
That’s a coup. And the whole " coup" thing was a couple hundred radicals playing games.
That’s nonsense. There was way more violence from the left through all of 2020.
Manipulation of information is politics? No, it's called lying. That’s politics.
That’s a coup.
That’s nonsense.
Did you sleep through 2020?That’s nonsense.
Not true, so why would you post something so utterly dishonest? Seems that your party politics is far more important than telling the truth.Yes... the democrats.
Not true in your opinion you mean. Neither party is innocent but it's obvious to me who is perverting democracy and it's not the Republicans. Not true, so why would you post something so utterly dishonest? Seems that your party politics is far more important than telling the truth.
As a former Republican, that's sheer nonsense. So many others have left the party or are being chased out as nothing short of sheer lunacy has taken over the party.Neither party is innocent but it's obvious to me who is perverting democracy and it's not the Republicans.
