Biden wants Congress to approve more hurricane relief. GOP refuses to go back to work.

anna.

colors your eyes with what's not there

Johnson replied, “We’ll be back in session immediately after the election.”

Just posted the same thing in the other hurricane thread.

Mind-boggling. And yet, not.

Biden critics claim he diverted the previously authorized and adequate funds.

Plus it's like no rush to get small business loans out anyways because the cleanup has to happen first, so coming back after session makes sense.

Kamala was touting sending 157 million to Lebanon today, no congressional approval needed. Yesterday Mayorkas said they have enough for Helene. So what is the real story?

Also what in your link it said:

Johnson noted that before Congress went on recess, the day before Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida, Congress appropriated $20 billion additional dollars to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to address immediate needs.

“Then after that, Congress always takes its the due approach of providing what is necessary,” he said. “Congress will provide. We will help people in these disaster-prone areas. It’s an appropriate role for the federal government, and you’ll have bipartisan support for that, and it’ll all happen in due time, and we’ll get that job done. There shouldn’t be any concern about that.”

So once again the headline is misinformation and you guys bought it hook line and sinker.

"Johnson noted" is just another way of saying "Johnson lied".

What Biden critics "claim" in this case is not true. But here has been one President in recent history who diverted funds from disaster relief to his own pet projects and tried to deny disaster relief from certain areas of the country because they didn't vote for him. Trump did those things and it has been documented.

which is less than one eighth of the estimated costs of Hurricanes Helene and Milton

And it is worth noting that the bill you are talking about barely passed because so Republicans voted against extending funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency
Full list of Republicans who Voted against FEMA funding
78-18 and 341 - 82 is not barely. Do you know why these people voted against it? And Johnson said they would fund whatever is needed. Harris is just trying to make a political issue where there is none.

For now. As a first emergency payment. There is more to come.

"The $750 payments are the initial support provided under a new FEMA program, not the sole financial assistance available. Applications can be made for multiple additional forms of financial support for those affected by the hurricane. ...

... “FEMA is also providing tens of thousands more dollars for folks to help them be able to deal with home repair, to be able to cover a deductible when and if they have insurance, and also hotel costs,” says Harris.

The $750 payments are part of the Serious Needs Assistance program, a new offering announced by FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security in January alongside several reforms intended to “cut red tape, provide funds faster and give people more flexibility.”

FEMA also disputed the claim that these funds were the only assistance being provided in a post on Helene-connected rumors.

Do you just swallow up everything Fox News tells you without question?? You know they had to pay out a giant settlement for repeatedly intentionally lie on air, right?

The rest remains to be seen. Until it does, it stands as hyperbole.
