I don't see how messing with funding with address anything. It's not an issue of funding. It is very much an issue where that money is going, including training material, equipment purchased, and money being wasted stringently enforcing minor traffic violations. It's money going to a flood of inmates and new jails amd prisons because they arrest too many for victimless crimes and fill jails with minor drug offenders so they can get more funding, get a new prison, and attempt to justify an even larger budget.And somehow I suspect that messing with the funding is not going to work so well when getting ATF to actually enforce the law.
A great chunk of that money, rather than being cut, can be used for retraining cops who are arseling bullies with a badge, hiring and training new cops who are trained with better materials, replacing some regular duty cops with social workers, making jails and prisons humane, and even establish an outside review board to examine complaints of police corruption and brutality and anytime the police get violent.
No defunding needed, just a major shift in priorities.
