Blasphemy Agaisnt the Holy Spirit

I am confused by what Blasphemy agiasnt the Holy Spirit is. Now, I am not christian, I would just like to see others opinions, christians and non-christians too.

My opinion is that blasphemy agaisnt the Holy Spirit is to refuse, deny, or to reject the Holy Spirit. I am not christian, but I do believe in a Holy Spirit and it is that which guides you to God, if you refuse to "give in" to it or reject it, then you will be seperated from God as long as you reject the Holy Spirit. The reason why you cant be forgiven is because you are refusing and rejecting that which forgives you.

Mark 3:22-30 states,
"And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, 'He has Beelzebub,' and, 'By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.' …'Assuredly, I [Jesus] say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation;' because they said, 'He has an unclean spirit'" (NKJV, emphasis added / Note: The Pharisees made the same charge in Mat 9:34.).

Here the scribes denied the Holy Spirit and said it was instead the Demon Beelzebub.

I dont believe that this is really an unforgivable sin, but an unforgivable state in which you cannot be forgiven because you are going agaisnt that which forgives you. It is not simply saying something bad, but a state of being.

Any other views? :)

The most sources I have seen on the topic suggest that to blaspheme the holy spirit is to attribute the miracles and works of Jesus to satanic or demonic powers. Interesting then, that it was Jesus himself that said that this is the one unforgivable sin. Quite a way to scare people into believing you.

Unless of course, Jesus was Satan. Might explain a few things, like his divisive teachings. I have seen Satan described as an agent of fragmentation in Judaism. (crap, I guess I'm going to hell)

But then, I'm not convinced that he actually existed.

Would me directly referring to the "Holy Spirit" as the demon it is be considered blaspheming it? :D

It really is very much like a demon when you think about it - it is an invisible spirit (like how demons are portrayed in the Bible), and more importantly, it gets inside people and influences their behavior (at least my Baptist church believes it, I couldn't back up the whole "be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit" rhetoric with scripture at this moment if I had to). And it promises supernatural rewards (namely, "eternal life") for submitting oneself to it and letting it possess you and erase your previous life, as illustrated in the ritual of baptism. Sounds like a demon to me.

I consider this to refer to a special kind of blasphemy- observing a thing which was done by the power of God and speaking ill of it, making someone feel little and worthless for doing what was truly right. This should never happen, but it happens all the time; it is a hard and lonely road to follow as your heart guides you and do what is right, because not only will you find rejection, but condemnation as though you had done wrong. It was when Jesus was healing the desperately ill that others tried to deride him as a friend of Satan, and that was when he said this thing. The reason the people who blaspheme the work of God are not forgiven is not their refusal to approach the forgiver, but because they have refused to show mercy and kindness to others. It is elsewhere that Jesus teaches "Judge not lest ye be judged; the measure by which you judge others is the measure by which you will be judged." Those who blaspheme the work of the Holy Spirit are those who forget this instruction.

How would you know this? Perhaps a god treats us all the same, whether we have or lack belief.

The reason why you cant be forgiven is because you are refusing and rejecting that which forgives you.

Same question. Besides, what do I need to be forgiven for?

If you're not a Christian, then why treat their holy book as inerrant truth?

I find blasphemy meaningless. Not because I am an atheist though. That would be obvious. What are the words of finite mortals to infinite omniscience or omnipotence? Meaningless gestures that can do nothing. Against deities less thought of as so powerful then their reaction brands them either benevolent or tyrannical.

Until theists can respond to the Problem of Evil, it's already the case that God (if it exists) is malevolent for the plethora of suffering in the world. That, or it isn't omnipotent/omniscient -- but then it wouldn't be much of a "god."

Theism is altogether problematic when it comes to being consistent with reality and reason. In hundreds of years (and that's being generously short considering the time frame when Epicurus brought the dilemma to the foreground) all theists have been able to do is respond with fallacies (especially special pleading), half-baked theodicies that crumble under the slightest inspection, and in very rare instances some actually rational responses that (alas) nevertheless have irredeemably flawed foundations (even if subtle).

Scare tactics seem to be the MO of Christianity. I too am not convinced that Jesus actually existed, but the religion does and that's all that matters to believers and those that use scare tactics.

I do believe God treats us all the same, but we deny God and cant have full access to Him.

Fo da bad stuff you dun.

Really though, I dont know what you need to be forgiven for, thats not my place.

Were did I say it was a book that was free from error? I had a question about Blaspheming the Holy Spirit, so why not go to the place were it is mentioned and start there?

Also, I do believe in the teachings of Christ, but I dont label myself with the rest of the Christians.

Why not? Perhaps access minimal, & mine is equal to yours. How could you prove otherwise?

Why would an ultra-powerful supreme being care about my miserable & minuscule existence & my personal peccadillos.

You didn't, but your citation of a Bible suggests treating it as a source of truth.

Why not? Because we are seperating ourselves from God. God has nothing to do with it, He loves me as much as he loves you or anyone else. But we seperate ourselves from God and then put the blame on God.

Because He loves you.

And I am not saying that to sound all squishy or anything like that, but I believe that God cares about our problems not to condemn us, but to liberate us. You need not ask forgiveness because you feel as if God is going to kill you or send you to hell, you should ask forgiveness to liberate yourself from your mistates and to be free of them. Paramahansa Yogananda said that the greatest sin is to call yourself a sinner. NEVER accept yourself as a sinner.

My citation of the Bible is just showing the source of my question, thats all.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit speaks of man not recognizing the coming of the Holy Spirit as the comforter sent by the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ. The Holy spirit will dwell among us. Biblical references, John 13:20, John 14:16-17, John 15:7, 15:13, John 15: 26.
